So I was literally going to post about this last night and then I saw this video today.
I’ve been wondering why I’ve seen some pretty good skiers riding the Punx 5, such as Andreas Håtveit and the guys at Real Skifi. I always thought a full cap would be too weak for their needs. Then I saw this in a real Skifi video. Looks like an AR50 sidewall (which I assume because same parent company).






Sneaky sneaky.
I know these guys are far from the first skiers to do this but damn, I really thought for a second “maybe they use the punx 5 because they’re good for urban or?”

Punx 5 are really flimsy beginner skis from atomic. A few sponsored riders ride them. They are actually riding different skis with the punx 5 topsheet. Marketing 101.

Atomic is famously shameless in doing this, especially since they ruined the og Punx by making them into the infamous/Punx 5.

The OG Punx line was killer. I had the black and gold ones (08-09) and it still remains one of my favorite skis. And the urban punx came with 3 skis and were Vishnu’s before Vishnu.

The real skifi guys are really destroying those skis, sometimes cutting them into pieces, so why not use the cheapest, lightest ones. Cap construction doesn't necessarily mean lack of durability. All Salomon twintips were cap construction for years in the 00s and they were very popular.
