The national avg iq of america is ~~10 pts lower than it is in socialist nordic countries. Yet ppl think it will still work here
The reason the USSR and Venezuela both ran about as well as an american diesel automobile is because in both those countries the population is too stupid to build a single product that other countries would ever want to buy, besides bananas and cocaine.
Look at americas best claim to fame— apple.
Apple is like the biggest point of pride of the entire country. And yet a tiny asian nation where they still eat fucking dogs can outcompete apple products easily. Its not even a contest anymore.
Americas avg iq is about even to the avg iq of the former USSR.
“b-b-but dont w-worry about da USSR bcuz socialism will w-w-work this time, we p-p-promise!”

I like the direction you're going here but what is your point? Is there a question in this? A quibble?
I believed this but my limited research actually indicates we’re on average 10 pts below the #1 country ranking in IQ...not all of Europe lol. With that said, I do think we need to fund education and prepare our future generations more adequately.
270on420outI love when retardlicans say that socialism doesn’t work as if capitalism does.
Every thread about politics and economics brings out the unread experts. It's even more ironic that a thread about iq brings out a person with a room temperature iq.
Capitalism has been the driving force of technological innovation for thousands of years. The device you're typing on is a result of capitalism working.
The concept of "Pay your fair share, or else." is inherently violent and has lead to the death of 10's of millions of people throughout history.
That rant makes very little sense. But, you're definitely a prime example of a below average intellect trying to grasp politico-economic concepts that are out of your reach.
The best part is the implied comparison between the good old "nordic countries" bucket and the USSR, and then let's lump it all under "socialism". Simply brilliant argument you're making there mate. You might want to reach out to the Economist and offer to write it up for their next publication.

Capitalism has only existed for a few centuries after feudalism faded away. Do you really think that the concept of “Reap what you sow” doesn’t have its own death toll? Colonialism, the slave trade, and the subsequent wars and proxy wars fought as a result of these fruits still have a lasting effect that is felt to this very day in almost all parts of the world.
Socialism may not work, but capitalism doesn’t fucking work either.

You will not find Russian automobiles outside of Russia or former soviet states for a reason. They're laughably pathetic.
Apple's most notable success is the iphone which is still a relatively new concept. Your assertion that Apple is what the US is most known for tells me more about your age than you probably realize. The proliferation of smart phones among many companies and now many companies world wide is a perfect example of capitalism working as it should. The people who revolutionize a technology are rewarded with enormous profits from it until the rest of the market catches up and starts competing which forces further development of technology to stay competitive.
Until we develop technology that completely eliminates the existence of human wants, needs, and desires, capitalism is the best system we have. I'm talking about Star Trek level of technology. Food replicators where we have full control over the atomic level assembly of all the periodic elements. Technology that allows the clean and responsible extraction and exploitation of resources at the push of a button. Travel throughout the solar system and beyond where we can seek the resources we need to expand and develop as needed... I'm down for utopia but capitalism is how we get there and the smartest people that have ever lived and ever will live will likely agree with that sentiment.

You can't be serious. How do you think commerce was conducted since the beginning recorded human history?
"I have a thing. I'll give you this many of my things in exchange for that amount of your things."
"deal."
Is your view of capitalism the exchange of printed currency or coins???
Do you think the existence of banks = capitalism??
Capitalism is based off the individual's accumulation of wealth and resources so that that individual can leverage their wealth to further increase their wealth in the pursuit of a better quality of life and societal advancement.
If you're any older than 10 we're all in bigger trouble than I thought.

Did your idol paul krugman write a good article in your latest copy of your subscription to the economist?
”hurr durr im so smart bcuz i read da egonomist and it doesnt hav pictures bcuz smart ppl like me dnt need picture in magazine hurr hurr”
One of the biggest fallacies in academia and science that idiots like you continue to fall for is that the truth is always complicated and should only be dealt with by qualified people.
so what monseur? You read a paul krugman article in the economist and now you think you are some sort of authority figure? You want to tell me that economics is something too complicated for laymen austrians like dolan to understand?
honestly if you and i both majored in econ at princeton (i know thats a stretch, you wouldve never gotten in lol) i couldve driven you to suicide in 1 or 2 semesters by gaslighting your subconscious terror of the reality that compared to dolan you are a fucking chimpanzee.

You think american ingenuity has a bigger claim to fame than apple?
i mean i guess tesla and intel are up there, microsoft maybe, but i dont think american engineering has a very long list of accomplishments compared to germany or japan. At least since the era when we used nazi rocket scientists to get us to the moon.
270on420outSocialism may not work, but capitalism doesn’t fucking work either.
Saying capitalism doesnt work at creating a functional working society is like saying DNA doesnt work at keeping a person in homeostasis.
the free market achieves greater efficiency than central planning ever could hope to. And part of making things efficient is rewarding ppl who advance the good/wealth/wellbeing of society.
lets say one of 270s family members gets cancer.
and lets say some german genius has an idea of how to design microscopic robots that crawl through a persons body and kill cancer cells, but they realize that the reward that he would be able to one day pass on to his kids would be taxed multiple times to the point there was hardly anything left, so instead of designing these robots he goes skateboarding instead.
Oopsy daisy! you killed capitalism and now your family member has died from their cancer.
Are you going to prepare a nice speech for their funeral about how great anticapitalism is?
If it wasn't for capitalism you wouldn't be living in the worlds richest country right now. Capitalism made companies move their production to the US because it was cheaper and now 150-200 years later you live in the richest nation on earth.
And yes it fucking sucks how much college costs but blame your fucking government, almost all capitalist countries have free or very cheap education (less than 1000$ per year)
And yes the current minimum wage is outrageus but can't really expect anyone to pay more than what is mandatory. Again fuck the govy

When you hear about what happened to tommy chong where some fucking government whores went full retard trying to bust him and put him in jail, presumably because of his character in cheech and chong, you really get a sense that the government very often is a true enemy of the people.
the us government seems to be filled with people who enjoy being a fucking cancerous tumor in working peoples asses.
On our last renovation the fire marshall showed up and said we needed to install a brand new complete sprinkler system in the condo we were doing. It cost the owner like 25k extra to pay for it all. The fire marshall had approved like 20 other renovations in the building without making any of them install a new sprinkler system, but he decided to completely stick it to us as best he could. Like why would he do that? Because he wanted a bribe? Did he want us to send his family to paris for 2 weeks?
Big government is such a cancer its not even funny.

bro, America brought the world modern manufacturing methods, GPS, lasers, the internet, artificial hearts, hearing aids, defibrillators, 3d printing, CAD.. the list goes on and on but you're limited by your tiny little brain to brand recognition and popculture type shit you're familiar with.
One of the most important inventions that dominates all the rest IMO, is the MOSFET, or The Metal Oxide Semiconductor Field Effect Transistor. It's the basis of all modern forms of electronics and trillions are manufactured every single minute. Invented by Mohamed Atalla and Dawon Kahng in 1959 at Bell Labs.

The yr is 1986.
1986 was a big year for american engineering. The culmination of all of the great achievements of American engineering up to this point both fueled and were showcased by the awesome technological achievement of the all american cadilac deville:
meanwhile the idiot germans who never invented or discovered or engineered anything of value had this lackluster entrant to the automobile world in the same year of 1986. This fucking disgrace was also known as the porsche 959.
obviously the pictures of these 2 cars (if you can even call the 959 a car) are indicative of how much superior american engineering and innovation was to that of germany up to that point. The sleek lines of the cadilac are influenced by prior american inventions like the jarvis artificial heart, hearing aids, and superior american manufacturing methods, like you mentioned TL.
Anybody who is unable to look at these 2 cars and easily see the beauty of the engineering of the cadilac compared to the disgusting genital wart looking porsche is simply ignorant of how much more in the future the US has always been than germany in terms of design, innovation, and engineering.
Lol, but seriously son, america has a decent history of innovation, but its not really at a level worth bragging about.
And as has been said, america landed on the moon (the greatest engineering achievement of all time) mostly because of wernher von braun, a former nazi rocket scientist with a head as big as a watermelon.
You're trying to morph the debate into USA vs. Germany because you can't break free from your pop culture coolness scale of reference.
Look how cool the Porsche 911 is!
That 911 wouldn't function without MOSFETs in the ECU. The manufacturing techniques to make it were pioneered in the US, it likely came from the factory on US made tires because they're the best made anywhere in the world. That specific 911 was still air cooled which in later and current models would switch to liquid cooling.. which was pioneered and perfected in the US.
How many space shuttles did Germany have in orbit in 1986? And don't give me shit about the Challenger (if you even know what that is), 911's crash too.
Just admit that the original premise of your thread; that Americans are just a bunch of dumb dumbs and don't make good stuff, is not a good one. It's an idea held by very low-info people.

“Capitalism is when you sell things” is a 10 year olds understanding of capitalism. The rugged individualism argument is used all the time to justify the shortcomings of capitalism but completely disregards the other problems associated with capitalism like trusts, monopolies, etc.

You're talking about systems within systems. There are rules in place to deal with monopolies in the US, they're just not enforced because laws don't apply to people past a certain income bracket. Capitalism itself doesn't cause politicians and governments to corrupt themselves, it's a lack of fear of being drug out into the street and dealt with by the public.
Capitalism wasn't even a bad word until 08-09ish anyway.

C- dude, it absolutely works. The average person in every capitalist country on the planet enjoys a better lifestyle than 50, 100, 200 years ago. Your argument is that ice cream sucks because sometimes it makes your hands cold. It's ridiculous to suggest that any system utilized by societies will be perfected instantly and will not include human biases, evils, or blunders worldwide. If it didn't work, we'd be having this conversation in the shit filled streets.

The easiest way to prove how well it works is to fly along the DMZ in Korea and stare into the blackness to the North. Literally the same country, split into two different methods. South Korea is one of the most advanced nations in the world now, and 70 years ago it was just "Korea".
Capitalism= the providers of capital own the means of production
Socialism= the workers own the means of production
It's as simple as that, has nothing to do with free markets or government control. Your neighborhood co-op is a socialist business. You can have a mixed system like Germany where workers are guaranteed representation on the board of a company. Most people have no clue what either of those words mean and conflate tons of other things that have sometimes been done in conjunction with socialism or capitalism as an integral part of those things when it's not at all. There are advantages and disadvantages but in my opinion one is far worse for most people.
And for everyone talking about prosperity in capitalist countries, correlation does not equal causation

What do you think is more responsible for a nations prosperity, other than being a place that rewards hard work (capitalism), and the national avg iq of that country (the ability of the countries citizens to absorb wealth from other countries by selling these other countries their superior technology)?
id like you to give me a single example of a prosperous socialist country with a relatively low national avg iq.
if you cant, then just shut the fuck up.
The fact that you figured out how to sell yourself as an eloquently speaking authority figure doesnt make up for the fact you failed basic physics and are more or less STEM illiterate.

Capitalism rewards having capital, not hard work. Sometimes those two things coincide, many times they don't. Most "socialist" countries fail not because of socialism necessarily, but because they are run by revolutionary governments which tend to be corrupt and oligarchical because the people who had the guns to overthrow the previous government will rarely put them down and look to the good of the people.
I'm not even gonna engage with your absurd iq argument, go back to /pol/

Telling ppl to read marks is kind of like telling them to read a manual on how to kidnap and murder babies.
marx would tell you that the babies are guilty and deserve it, but most people know that the majority of babies, just like the majority of rich people, are innocent and dont deserve to be kidnapped and murdered.
im glad you enjoyed marx kdot. Pls dont kidnap and murder me.
awfulskierso who comes up with the capital for that production in socialism?
I'm far from a socialist theorist, I wouldn't even say I'm a socialist (I favor some sort of a mixed system), and I'm certainly not an economist. I was mostly looking to put out some basic definitions as most people clearly don't know them.
That is one of the biggest questions I have myself, I'm sure someone has an answer but I've never read a single piece of socialist theory. It is true that individuals with immense wealth can sometimes create innovative ideas that would not have happened otherwise. If the wealth is distributed well enough the workers could be able to pool together capital, and the government would also certainly play a role (although this goes beyond the scope of the most simple definition of socialism, so is not necessarily always true). Also, you can still have capitalists in a socialism system, they just wouldn't gain ownership simply by giving money, they would have to actually work at the company. Managerial work is still work, the capitalist could be the CEO and have part ownership in the company.
Like I said, I don't know any theory and am not advocating for any particular system, I'm just spitballing here. All I know is that our current post-1980 system where having absurd amounts of money just leads to more money and the wealth of the middle class is being eaten away and sucked up to the super-rich where it sits and does nothing while people starve is not it.

Haha. By your logic, boeing and airbus owe germany all their credit because germans invented the jet engine.
Also by your logic all cars from all countries owe germany credit because mercedes benz of germany invented the first automobile.
nobody cares about the few little victories in engineering the US had every 100 yrs.
For you to say germany would somehow be hamstrung without the benefit of american innovations is like saying that if germany hadnt invented the car or the jet engine that we would still be riding horse carriages in 2020 and flying commercial planes that used propellers instead of turbofans.
if you are really stupid enough to think germany needed american innovations to allow them to rape and pillage 95% of physics and engineering then i feel bad for you son.
German engineers got 99 problems but lack of american innovations aint one.

please tell me how you had physics grad students ask to meet with you your frosh yr at princeton because they were intrigued by how you did your own transformations for a rotational inertia problem on a physics exam because you didnt bother memorizing the equations.
