badatrailsHey all this is my second year doing park things, and I am seriously struggling with rails. I've been skiing for 8-9 years now, but last year I decided to stop being a pussboi and learn 180s and 360s in the spring. Spring didn't really work out, so I'm still roughing out my 360s. I've seriously nutted up over the past weeks and haven't been scared of attempting rails or hitting larger jumps, but I am really struggling. There's a downhill (i think its called) barrel rail about 10" in diameter, at my local park and I've hit it probably 200 times over the last 5 days I was out. Its the easiest rail built on the park, and I've slowly progressed from sliding back on my hips or straight up falling off to kinda just coming off it or straddling it. I know there are threads on this already, but if anyone can provide me with some advice on getting the rail, it would be much appreciated. I only ask because I think this might be a bit difficult of a rail to learn on, so I am going to need more work to get to a successful grind.
wyld_stallynsMost progress I make are with a few cold ones in me...liquid confidence baby
Drink responsibly
And be 21
xavexcMy 2nd year too im already hitting up down rails. Its all commitment and making sure ur shoulders and skis are 90 degrees with the rail and u just looking at the end of it. Its all mental ill be honest with u. Also what helped me was watching guys like jackson kartster and how he got on rails.
OCoffeyGet boxes on lock and then narrow boxes and then rails will be easy
katrinaLook at the end of the rail not your feet, and speed is your friend. Have fun!

wyld_stallynsStomp It tutorials is dope. Dude really knows how to break tricks down and explain in an understandable way
BradFiAusNzCoCaNobody ever attaches a video when they say they will lol
Random story but I was a little bugged about rails one day (this was like 4 years ago). I think I had a bad day in park recently or something.
My friend was on mushrooms and just randomly said to me “This thing about rails. Just remember to pop, stand shoulder width apart with a slight bend in your knees, look at the end of the rail”. Totally out of nowhere while he was tripping.
Anyways, I took it to heart. Helped a lot.

theabortionator2 big things are commitment, and angle of approach.
Make sure you fully commit to the rail, get sideways on it. Also, come in with a little speed and pick a good line at the rail.
It sounds simple and it kind of is sometimes but a lot of peoples struggle with it.
Keep at it regardless though. Some things can be a big struggle but youll get it.
mentholjuulpodsome things that helped me progress:
1. come up to the rail with your shins pressed against the tongue of your boots
2. bend your knees a bit and keep your feet shoulder width apart. center the rail between your legs (only do this if it’s a flat bar or something with a good lip) (if it’s a down rail or something like that you’re going to want to come at the rail from the left or right side of the lip and pop onto the rail, i’m sure you know this but just to clarify)
3. come into the rail with a little bit more speed than you think you’ll need or comfortable with
4. get a solid pop, bring your knees up and turn 90
5. keep your knees bent and your feet shoulder width apart to keep your balance on the rail. eventually you’ll learn to “scissor” your feet to keep your balance on skinnier rails
6. focus on the end of the rail
hope this helps, as other people said it just takes practice and time
The.FishA video would help a lot, but rails are just a repetition thing. I am on my 5th season of park I think and I am still improving my basic fundamentals of getting on rails. It isn't just something you figure out one day and never worry about again.
badatrailsOk... I know you asked for video, and I did take them, but I realize that a video is all I needed. I know exactly what I am doing wrong now, and it's so clear! I hope the only video I post here is a successful rail grind lol. Thanks for pushing me to film!
