Lib Tech Skis

Owned a pair of backwards and UFO 105s I used as park skis. Currently have another set of backwards as a tele setup. Super fun ski for tele I Gotta say, I love how they ski. Living in the midwest with variable conditions, I don't think magnetraction is a gimmick. My only complaint is durability as both my backwards and UFO park skis broke in 1 season. But thats more due to how I ski and the fact that I destroy skis. Only skis I have ever had last more than one season are Armada ARV 106s I use as park skis. All in all, love Lib Tech skis and am definitely gonna buy another pair of UFOs next season when I graduate college and have money to spend.

Thanks guys. I currently rip a 106 188 qst. Im thinking about the 96 ufos. but honestly theres like 3 different Lib tech i want.
I do not rip park, only all mtn.

Wreckreates are supposed to be fun too if you’re not doing park. I’ve got a pair of Wreckreate 102s that were shipped to my parents house (I’m a continent away). Stoked to take them out when I’m back!

UFO 95 is one of my favorite skis I've tried in recent years. I can't say I noticed the magnetraction most of the time, but mine were HEAVILY detuned for rails. Durability, I've had better and had worse, for all-mountain use with no rails, I'd be surprised if you had any issues though.

I really like what the brand does and think they are well worth supporting too.

I've had a lot of Lib Tech skis (11 pairs or so) over the years. I have not tried the newest iteration of the UFO. The current version of Magne Traction is pretty neutered, so its impact is pretty minimal - I would not really factor it into the decision.

Lib's are decent skis at affordable prices. I personally think that their older skis - or NAS - were built better (heavier, more bombproof constructions) than their current offerings. The current skis are for the most part fairly light, but are also lively and their graphics usually pops like crazy on snow. The narrower UFOs were the better of the older UFOs, though the current iteration of 115s is a bit stiffer - so probably less soft snow specific (the old UFO115 is probably the worst ski at mach schnell on hard groomers that I've been on). Wundersticks are easy to ski skis that still retain a fair bit of punch and can be skied fairly hard (I've owned both 106s and 118s).

Lib's/Mervin's quality assurance and quality control leaves a bit to be desired imho. Basically, Mervin has set in place very few measures to ensure a consistent build quality / parameters within a pair of skis other than "they are built at the same time, so they must turn out similar enough". At least that is my understanding based on discussion with them on the subject. I've had several products not meet my standards. For instance, a GoldMember split that I bought had the screws recessed far to far into the bases -> they would not get sufficient support and would have worked their way through the bases/into the core (not remained watertight) upon hard use. I also bought a pair of Wündersticks118 that had a massive 125gr weight difference within the pair. The design weight of the ski is 2177 a ski, mine weighed 2000 and 2125. So yes, they did not ski identically - one was noticeably stiffer. I would not have minded a pair at +/- 25gr at 2000gr, 2125gr or 2177gr - all would have skied well.

They are still fun skis. My main takeaway is that Mervin are producing with an increasing focus on number of units, but with insufficient focus on building bombproof skis. I have not seen any 2021 products, so things could have been put in place over the last year to remedy my concerns. That being said, their pricing is pretty great - especially for where they are made.

I have this weird spot of really liking their skis and their ethos - they were my first skis after 15years or so on snowboards, but being off put enough by my last 3-4 purchases that I probably will not be buying from them again. I really want them to prove me wrong and turn things around though, and I would be happy to try any current UFO or Wunderstick.

can you reccomend a mounting point on the 20 ufo 95 i read the review do you think the sweetspots to far back i see your -2 curious if after riding them you think anything different

It depends a little on what you're going to be skiing, but I liked -2 a lot. I was mostly skiing park, and for that, it worked out pretty nicely. I might go -3 for a little more groomer/all-mountain.
