When learning jumps, rails, and boxes; poles or no poles?
I got rid of my poles at that point because of thumb and shoulder issues on falls. That said I wasn't a super great skier at the time and really never felt comfortable. I can't do certain tricks with poles in my hands, but I know some people who feel weird without. All in the head likely so who cares just try both and see what you like more.
when i was first getting into sliding my first rails and hitting some medium line jumps my poles got in the way. jamming into ribs/ coming down on pole. now that i’m a little better ( keyword little) the poles don’t seem to get in the way anymore but i still prefer not to have them
No poles and here's why (for me). The shop guy gave me poles that are too tall for everything but touring uphill and going down steeps. I did a front 2 out of this box and my pole landed before I did, resulting in forcing my hand to punch myself in the face. I know this is my fault, but short poles that I'm used to would've been fine. I do think poles help with balance on rails.
When learning tricks, I have a hard time doing any grab with poles. I just can't figure out how to hold both the handle and pull your ski toward you like in a mute or cuban. Without poles, the grabs become easier, and the tricks tend to be landed more. I also have fucked up my thumbs and wrists when crashing with poles. However, it probably is important to learn with them so when you're out throwing blunt 3s and mute 7s off natural features, having poles won't ruin your trick. To conclude, do whatever tf you want
I ski with and without poles.
1 thing I will say is that I do not own poles (anymore) I just rent poles when I'm feeling like wearing them. Sometimes doing swaps and whatnot on rails feels so good with poles. Just make sure the poles are about up to your elbows or slightly below to make them feel natural.

Shine the poles. Do skate and blade folks use them? IDTS.
Look at it this way. Poles are two more things to hurt yourself with.
I gave up poles long time ago. Best thing I ever did.
