How old were you when you first realized past generations were just as cool/interesting/hip/alive as the current generation?

I was a late bloomer with respect to this realization. I saw the movie “risky business” (1983) with a young tom cruise and it really made me realize that it was very possible that some previous generation in the past was worlds cooler then the later or current generations. I dont remember exactly how old i was when i saw risky business but it proved to me that maybe the biggest part of immaturity is thinking you are original when you arent.

Like even before the twin tip revolution around 2000 i remember seeing certain skiers in park city and thinking “that guys style of skiing is so cool”. This was before style police came around and everything. These skiers with this style were literally just natural born sex machines.

Anyways this song from a 1985 german dj got me thinking about how its such a shame so much of the past gets forgotten.

Aspen in the 1980's was a lit place. It snowed Cocaine more than powder and it was basically a free for all with cheap lodging and no rules.

Idk mid 20's however there has to be a flip back at some point cuz every old person still thinks they're the coolest generation.

Quickly after I started doing aggressive inline a couple years ago, I realized that the wheel/clothing/liner companies back in the 90's and 2000s were 10x cooler than any of the stuff on the market now, in terms of general aesthetics and brand image. Everything is so neutral and "professional" now.

I also ended up realizing a bit later that aggressive skaters back then were pushing the limits of the sport and nowadays they're not. It's like how skiing transitioned from the gangsta aesthetic to what we have now, except nowadays in skiing tons of people are still doing tricks that are absolutely fucked, and there is almost none of that in aggressive inline anymore.

I have an old pic of my dad posted up drinking a beer in front of an RV in the Sun Valley parking lot in like 1971 or something. They all have shoulder length long hair it is an awesome pic.


I mean to be perfectly honest I think pretty much every generation was cooler than this current batch of triggered iPhone addicted indoor cats. No offense intended.
