BrandoComandoYou could use a generator with a lower power rating, but the lights won't operate at their max brightness. They need the full 500 watts for that.
As far as generators go, gas and battery are both pretty good these days. Battery is pretty much free to operate after you purchase it. But when they run out it takes a while to recharge. Gas you can refill instantly, you just gotta buy the gas.
I'd recommend a gas generator because 500 watts would require a pretty huge battery pack to run for a couple hours. Have you bought your lights yet? You could get super bright LEDs that draw way less power than halogen bulbs. They'd last longer too
NarrowGlintI havent bought my lights yet. Im just starting to research everything. Would you recommend any LED lights or any brand to look for that draws alot less power?

NarrowGlintwould a couple halogen work lights work for skiing (500 watt) and my main question is do I need a 500 watt generator for it and what are some good ones like electric or gas. Thanks a lot.
NarrowGlintAlright this is my current idea for a lighting setup (based on what u guys suggested):
2 of these ($50 Total): https://www.homedepot.com/p/Husky-2000lm-LED-Portable-Work-Light-HD2000P/307697517
This generator (125$): https://www.amazon.com/Generator-Flashfish-45000mAh-Portable-Emergency/dp/B07SG4QG47/ref=sr_1_10?dchild=1&keywords=battery+generator&qid=1609895620&sr=8-10
According to my calculations based on what the description says to calculate, both these lights should run 3+ hours straight. Do you guys think this is good enough for some urban stuff (I'm not filming professionally, just having fun with friends and filming on phones)?
