Am I insane?

I do light day touring, cant afford AT boots yet so I rock my Dalbello park boots, honestly they aren't too bad, when shit gets steeper its a pain without the ankle being able to flex but I make do. Am I the only one?


Edit. But also what are some good cheap AT boots that work with rail bindings (yes I rock Tyrolia Adrenalin)

Nah. You're not. Most of us started this way. Try buckling them under the tongue, so it hangs loose, or just take the tongue out entirely. I've skied plenty of big days in Full Tilts and frames.

You have to start somewhere. Wasn't all that different when I got going; just do yourself a favor and level up your setup when you get the chance.

Gettin there, hopefully ill get my hams on some good pin bindings and AT boots by next season, not too worried about it since Im kinda grounded in the midwest for the time being

I started touring on Lange race boots and frame bindings.


The Adrenalines are arguably the best frame binding. Don't go with whatever "cheap boot" you can find just because it's cheap. Go see a boot fitterand get the ones that fit the best. Nearly every shop has sales after February to make room for next year's gear.

I skinned with Dalbello Kryptons and p18s with trekkers or old Dukes for a good 8 years, it'll get ya there. It makes switching to pin bindings and real touring boots that much better.

Yes you are insane, but all of us were at some point. If it works and you are able to make it work for what you want, then hell yeah, but that true touring set up on the horizon is heavenly. I finally, after about 8 years of touring, got my set up dialed to what I want, so be patient too and don't skimp yourself for the gear you think you want/need.

Started on dalbello panterras, 2013 bentchetlers, and dukes; also still rocked the 2xl saga fit because gotta look good while slaving for low angle pow.

Still touring in my head raptor boots on some black diamond megawatt with Salomon guardian frame bindings.
Fun to ski with, a whole lot less fun to tour on. But untill I can afford a whole new setup it works.

I’m touring on full tilt classics and alpine trekkers. I haven’t gone on any tours over a mile so it works. Save weight with your skis. I’m using my skis from last year that are 158, I’m 5’ 7”.

Anything to get out and ski the two inches of power. But with a heavy set up it’s really more about the tour up because you can take your time and enjoy it more.

Facts, I pretty much just tour up my local hill after it closes, and then at Bohemia so I don’t really need a crazy tech setup yet

As others said, nope you're not alone. I toured on my FT Descents until I got tech bindings. LOVED them (for comfort) except the weight.

I tour on ON3P Jeffery 108s with metal pivot 15s and daymakers, in tecnica cochise alpine boots with no walk mode. I think it's about as heavy a setup as I could come up with but I won't know how bad it is until I try something lighter. I've done decently big days and can keep up with guys on proper light setups so it works for me. I also have the setup I want for the way down or for resort days. I think it's pretty sick to be able to rip park laps and go for tours on the exact same setup.
