Are Idiot Kids Ruining Skiing?

idiot kids ruining skiing
Me and my friend and his older brother were hiking the park at our mountain (sundance UT) and we’re having a blast, me and my buddy are just learning park, this is our first year skiing rails and stuff (my best trick is a sloppy 270 off a box) my buddies older brother is awesome at skiing park, this is his first season after a 2 year hiatus (mormon mission).
We are skiing the park and this kid who is always at the resort (cotopaxi multi color kid with some rosignols) comes up and starts making fun of us and laughing at us because we aren’t as good as he is at skiing. This kid is like 13 and can just spin a ton on and off of stuff. This is a super baby park because we don’t have any snow so it’s not on any crazy features or anything just boxes and a couple rails.
Me with my ON3Ps and full tilts and can’t really do much in the park so maybe i’m a poser but i don’t care, If you think you are the shit don’t make fun of everyone who is learning how to ski park, you were once at that level and you shouldn’t discourage people from doing the sport we all love.
Especially if you aren’t even good, this kid could literally spin and that’s it.
I’ve been skiing since i was 2 and i can throw down pretty hard on all the mountain outside the park so it pissed me off to be made fun of. And my friends older brother is always the best skier in the park at this local mountain. He was just messing around trying some new tricks so he wasn’t exactly trying to show off to this empty park This kid should have shut the hell up. This pissed us up to the max and ruined our day.
Anyway we didn’t know he was making fun of us untl my buddy told me and his brother that he was laughing at our lines with his friend, and talking about how we suck at park, my friends older brother started saying he misses how skiing was like 3 or 4 years ago when there wasn’t so many retarded kids who think they are the shit, he was saying how if these kids went to an actual park like Woodward they wouldn’t be able to do anything. Anyway, he doesn’t want to ski at our local mountain anymore because of all the retarded kids who are ruining skiing, he would rather ski at brighton where it’s big enough to get away from the idiots.

edit: idc about the kid being rude, we didn’t let the kid hurt our feelings. Just think it’s the kids like this who ruin skiing for everyone in the park on a given day

Anyway what do y’all think/ have you had any similar experiences?

There have always annoying 13 yo kids and they exist outside of skiing too. Brush it off, do your thing. He'll either grow up or remain an unwanted annoyance in life.

Yea everyone’s had an experience with such a specimen. Usually if your not a complete moron yourself you can have fun with it and flip it on the kids head.

This is why Sundance was always a turnoff for me... whatever happened to progression and having fun rather than who is better, especially there! The best thing to do is let it slide and just keep ripping!

Yeah this is nothing new at all. There have been egotistical shitheads in the park since like 2004.

At the end of the day, you are the more real skier. Why? Because you are having fun and doing it for the love and not trying to be better than anyone else.

The irony is that kid probably thinks he is hot shit because he is the top dog at Sundance but would barely be middle of the pack at Park City so good for him.

That kid is a jerk, hopefully he grows out of it. The mountain is for everyone and my favorite part of park skiing is the inclusivity of the community. I'm sorry you haven't got taste of that yet but I promise it does exist and good on you for recognizing that kid as being - as my non-skiing rocket power living family would refer to as - a total squid.

Yes but celebrate other peoples progress with them as well. Watch out for yourself for sure but encourage others who are also working to get better. Life's more fun with other people involved.

I feel you dude. I’m a grown ass man and the thing I’m most insecure about is my park skiing LOL. Something about being a “type 3 lololol skiier” everywhere and a shit park skiier just pushes the buttons. Good thing everyone at eldora is pretty dang friendly and cool.

yeah those people sucks I'm really lucky that I have a super chill community at my mountain. Have boarded at sundance a few times before though, and I definitely have seen things like what you're talking about

Dont let them get to you. Most good skiers are nice and outgoing as fuck. Its the inbetweeners that are sometimes assholes tho. Ive met a few male and female park skiers over the years who were total losers tho. One time i asked a girl in the park at timberline who was dressed up in some snazzi bright expensive baggy gear where she was from and she didnt even respond, she just stared at me. Then she proceeded to ski down to a jump, speed checking too much like a pussy, and knuckle the fuck out out an attempted 540 and double eject. I skied down by her and was like “nice” and she just looked so embarassed as she should have been.

if you arent happy enough in the terrain park to be nice to other people its probably because you suck at it.

Yeah except there was 6 of them and they only hit side hits and they really wanted to fight me for some reason. My buddy and I took our skis off and cornered them in line and were like bro what the fuck is y’all’s problem? Like we just out here chillin and y’all are just being douchebags. After they realized we were much better (and bigger) than they were they shut the fuck up and tried to be our buddies. Anyways moral of the story is if you have to talk shit to make yourself feel better you’re the real poser, no matter how good you are

No they aren't. That kid is total tool and the exception. I ran into that every so often early on but the majority of skiers and snowboarders were so encouraging when I was learning everything. Random guys always yelling out encouragement after I would completely fail. Frankly, the ski community is one of the most positive I have seen anywhere in life. I live in sw Colorado btw.

Those guys only have the power you give them. And with the whole gear thing, I or anyone else for that matter could care less if someone's skill level has to coincide with the skis they ride. Just buy the pair you want and have fun, at the end of the day your supporting the industry and that's important.

I grew up skiing and Sundance and I am not surprised about this at all. Your definitely the bigger person and skier here and hopefully these hot shot kids will grow up and realize that skiing is for everyone, and not just you and your little Cotopaxi jacket
