Head Framewall “360 protector”

BradFiAusNzCoCaWhat is the head frame wall “360 protector” made of? I can’t find anything on it and my first guess would be UHMW. However, I just saw some last year’s Frame Walls in a shop yesterday and the yellow finish on the sidewalls/topsheet looked really bad. Like a caulk material with really bad bonding to the topsheet. Having never seen Frame Walls in person before, I was kind of shocked at how bad it looked. Does anyone know what the “protector” is made of?

It’s the same material as the sidewall I believe which is usually ABS but I’m not super familiar with Heads construction.

I was under the impression that abs might have issues bonding on a round tip, but I’m not sure on that. This seemed to go higher than sidewall so it didn’t seem like sidewall but like a “bumper”

Also evan mceachran at 2021 xg slopestyle and jesper tjader at 2021 knuckle huck were both riding head caddys as opposed to framewalls.

my take is that both skis ski about the same but the caddys perform slightly better which is why jesper and evan both ride them.

I wonder what it is about the framewall they dont like. Maybe the wrap around sidewall has some sort of torsional baggage idk.

i think if head ever figures out how to beef up their edge construction they will be one of the best park skis you can buy.

im trying to find the video of the random guy doing a dub 10 on supershapes; durability aside head skis are insane.

and there is no way on3ps bases have better glide than head bases. Watching evan and jesper on course looks like watching a puck on an inclined air hockey table.

Fischer and atomic and volkl seem to be more obvious choices than head if you want a railproof ski with a slick as fuck german base; i dont think the 600$ price of on3ps is justifiable when considering fischer and atomic and volkl

1) Jesper says he goes through a pair of skis per contest because rails ruin the bases ability to go fast

2) Just because they have a big R&D doesn’t mean they make more expensive skis for park skiers. Park skiers are notoriously cheap. Völkl makes their skis in Germany...except for their park skis. They’re made in China.

3) Jesper says the frame walls are stiffer than the caddy’s

4) Fischer is Austrian

I would say my Völkls are more enjoyable as a ski than a park ski. There’s obvious Völkl heritage, in that they can rail amazingly well.

Yeah I just saw Jesper head video. That’s what made me think of this! Interesting to hear his responses.

Did someone ask about on3p in this thread?

Had 2 pairs of Head frame walls and they are nice skis. Regular thickness base and edges but very high quality and fast.
The Caddy and Framewall are the exact same build except for the Framewall having the sidewall extend into the top sheet all around the ski.

By having the top sheet extend 360 all over the ski it makes the ski more durable for top sheet chipping but makes the ski a bit stiffer and heavier vs The Caddy. So the Caddy will be a tiny bit more playful and softer and the Framewall a bit stiffer and more damp.

My Framewalls weren’t “chalky” at all and were the same as a normal sidewall. Perfect for preventing top sheet chipping as you could just hit the sidewall with a file or knife to make them look great again. Didn’t use them on rails at all as I’m old but they are not larger edges so either one wouldn’t be a great rail or urban ski. Either one hasn’t changed in a few years so you could definitely get deals on either the Caddy or Framewall on older versions. Good comp skis but even the Caddy isn’t a super soft playful ski.

Sorry. I just hear all the time how fast on3ps ds 4000 bases are and i was just saying that they may be fast but i doubt they are as fast as the bases that head volkl fischer atomic use on their FIS race skis. Otherwise they would all be using ds 4000 transparent bases instead.
