Why don't park skis come detuned

You can't add edge my friend. Some people like to grip the snow more than they like to slide on a rustbelt. detuning your edges is a very viable option. YouTube has some great tutorials on how to DIY. All you really need is a file and determination.

If you got new park skis and you didn't catch one edge on your first day, did you even get new skis?

It has to do with the individual company and how their production line works, too. Especially for bigger brands in bigger factories, it's much more efficient for them to just tune everything the same way. Case in point, I got a pair of Bent Chetlers a couple of seasons ago that came with a full-on race tune. You could literally cut your fingers running them up and down the edges. Annoying as that was it made sense given that just about everything else in Atomic's line is a race ski. They're not going to take the time/money/effort to add a special step to their production line for just a couple of models. For someone like Armada, in the case of the OP, they're fully integrated into the Salomon/Amer factory world at this point. Their skis aren't going to get the specialized treatment they could have when they were a smaller, indie brand making product their own way in much smaller batches.

It sucks because it feels like the company either doesn't understand what you're doing with their skis or the just don't give a shit, but it's mostly just the reality of manufacturing at scale.

I’m still messing with my new Skis’ edges. I’ve detuned them underfoot twice. Coarse file, gummy stone, diamond stone. Still sticking. I skied some icy conditions yesterday. I think they’re finally good but damn is it annoying.

Because when your average Jerry buys a ski even if it is a park ski most likely it won't be used in the park, then they will complain that it doesn't ride like it should if it is detuned.

calcashPicked up a fresh pair of edollos the other day and went to the park and caught an edge on the second rail I hit. Companies know that their skis are going to be detuned so why don't they come from the factory with detuned edges?

Ha ha. That would be lame. YOU need to tune your skis BEFORE you ski them.
I know some have or will do it for you, but that's rare.

I hated having to do this to new skis and the whole will they wont they catch on feature. It can also cause early edge cracks if they aren't detuned. Thats why every pair of Alparkas gets checked and decently detuned underfoot before they get sent out.

I mean, it relates a lot to the same reason that companies don't warranty skis that have rail damage, because "they're not designed to be slammed on metal". Obviously it's silly but hey, go rip some roy and love your edges for a day or two.
