AyylmaoYou WILL take the VACCINE and you WILL eat the BUGS
TOAST.Is it more sustainable than the regenerative agriculture model? I don't doubt that it's better than current farming norms, but I find it hard to believe that this is the answer.
BiffbarfFun fact- per unit use of consumption weed in colorado has a higher carbon footprint than beef.

TRVP_ANGELreal eco justice warriors eat only water.
sqeellicbicRegenerative agriculture isn't sustainable at all. It can only offset 20-60% of emissions that those same animals produce in the first place.
TOAST.I mean a decrease is a decrease, especially 60%. This lab grown meet is emmision free? Sure the best thing the human race could do for our planet is to stop existing, but until then we are going to create some emissions in order to eat.
What is your solution? I'm willing to look into anything, but from the small amount I have read regenerative seems pretty good and at least it's an improvement.
sqeellicbicI mean that it only offsets 60% of the emissions that the grazing animals produce in the first place, not 60% extra. So grazing still adds carbon. And as of right now, we have no idea what the emissions of lab grown meat are gonna be but the number one thing you can do to help the environment is go vegan. Giving up animal products saves more carbon than giving up your car.
It's time that we address the fact that what we do to animals is destroying us. Whether it be pandemics or climate change, animal exploitation does not end happily for us humans.
TOAST.Crops still need fertilized. I would think the best way to do that would be to use animals. Chickens can help control pests. My wife is vegan and I cant imagine that shipping in veggies from across the country/from other countries can be too sustainable. If you eat only local veggies I agree, but you still need animals to fertilize (can composting be done on a large enough scale?) so why not eat them once in a while or use them for other products.
CaseyFood is expensive, and kind of a pain in the ass to acquire, prepare, etc. Plus you gotta try and eat well it’s this whole other thing it’s just a lot of effort when it’s all said and done.
Sometimes I think it would be nice to just put 2 cups of kibble in my bowl and be done with it. This seems like it’s going that direction. In the future they claimed we’d all just have a pill for every meal. Well we got the pills part down and gave up on that dream.
slitherysnake531idk bro the meat looks fine to me. as long as it tastes good and doesn't wreck the environment i'm fine with it, but I need meat
qazwsxedc34Let's be honest though. It's going to be full of chemicals. Hopefully, the small organic sustainable farms stay open although talking to farmers they say they are suffering presently.
sqeellicbicAnimal exploitation is the biggest tragedy this planet has ever seen

qazwsxedc34What did dogs eat before kibble?
qazwsxedc34Source.
qazwsxedc34There is a difference between sustainable farming and killing of animals in human ways than factory farming fast food meat where the cows shit on other cows and are pumped with chemicals and then are thrown in a meat grinder whole.
Eskimos can surely plant a bunch of lettuce in the arctic and survive of of it. No need to stab seals with spears.
sqeellicbicThere's no such thing as "humane killing" brotha

Click the link, that's why I say it's the biggest tragedy this planet has ever seen. It's unfathomable.

nashandraMeh, it’s a thing to discuss here. For example, I agree with the vegan politics, but I don’t really like how they are trying to make us all vegans. I mean, all those ads and Instagram posts, all about we are killing cows, but cows are our friends. Well, if you want to be a vegan, be, but it doesn’t mean that you have to make me vegan. For example, I would kill a man for some good beef jerky https://www.bigwigjerky.com.au and that’s it, that is me and that is what I like. I will never appreciate lab meat, sorry, that is who I am!
EdensDemiseLab grown meat might be better for the environment but it still isn’t ethical. Just eat some fucking vegetables
asparagusHow is lab grown meat not ethical? There’s no way growing food in a lab is less ethical than killing animals, polluting the environment and wasting space and resources
EdensDemiseWith the technology we currently have, you still need to kill animals for lab grown meat, just less of them. Yeah it’s better than “real” meat, but why choose a better option when we have a good option?

Sdot.False. Have you been to northern/western Alaska?
We harvest nearly all of the protein that we eat through hunting and fishing. Neither veganism nor lab-grown meat is in my future.
Monsieur_PatateThat's only your choice tho. We've evolved and developed our supply chain to a point where you can get any food you want pretty much anywhere on the planet. You don't have to hunt or fish, you can eat whatever you want, you can be a vegan if you want and still get the proteins needed for healthy diet, that's the beauty of living in our (western) day and age. You seem to imply that "neither veganism nor lab-grown meat is in your future" because of you live in AK and that you have to hunt and fish to get your proteins, but you don't have to, you simply chose to.
More generally on this topic, people don't seem to realize that any innovation has to go through the steps, lab-grown meat is still in the infancy stages, as this industry develops, so will its quality and efficiency. So if lab-grown gets to a point where it's more efficient to produce, similar in taste, widely available while being animal-friendly, I mean it just becomes a no brainer, why wouldn't you eat it then?
Same reasoning with electric vehicles, goal is to get that to a point where it's as efficient to produce, similar in performance while being cheaper and more eco-friendly to run. I mean it will just be a no-brainer for everyone.
I'm all for innovation in general, but even more so in the face of our climate crisis, this isn't a luxury, we need to change, and I'm personally excited to see people coming up with these ideas.
