Good avy pack for day trips that does not break the bank.

Looking for a good avy pack that can hold my 112 death wishes and all my gear for day trips. Any suggestions?

theres a lot of options man... what way do you prefer the carry to be. A frame or side saddle

I find hiking packs are the best value something in the 40-50L range. Usually they have enough straps on the outside they can hold skis in some fashion

A frame is what I have done so far. Seems good. Do you have a preference?

I have a Mystery Ranch Scepter 35 and love it. Pricey normally but a great deal if you're on ExpertVoice

Having a ski specific pack has the benefits of:
• An avalanche gear stash pocket (avoids getting your other items wet and is easier to manage when doing a rescue)
• Goggle pocket
• Radio pocket / shoulder strap sleeve

If you run hot, look for something with good ventilation on the back. I find having a legit hip belt is super helpful, so I like mountaineering packs.

Ive got the Osprey Soelden 32, its solid but my 122mm skis are too fat to carry in A-Frame, 112 should be fine tho

If your looking for an airbag you can find BCA 32Ls on sale in the $250 range end of the season. Just beware the airtank costs an additional $150-200 it does not come with the bag ):

Honestly, just go with whatever bag you find used if you cant afford new.

I've had good success with my dakine avy pack, got it on Evo for around 80 bucks, it's still going strong after lots of time strapping skis to it and boot packing. hope this helps.

Find something in the 30-40L range. You will be surprised how much gear you end up carrying as you start filling out the kits for your pack.

I am using the ortovox haute route 32 currently and it's my favorite I have used to date (mammut 22L airbag, BCA airbag, dakine mission, and Patagonia ascensionist). I have a buddy using the ortovox peak 45 as his guide pack and he is in agreeance that there's no complaints with their fit or spatial management. Ortovox in my opinion is doing it right and I think you can find some stuff on deals right now with the end of the season.

What’s your budget?

I love my BCA Float but I get pro deals so it wasn’t top expensive. You can find compatible Damien packs for cheap and buy the system that goes in it.

i should clarify that 80 bucks was just for the pack, not with the airbag, which i had to get separately. this is probably obvious but i figured id just add this.
