Lazer Avalanche control

Gave me another idea, could use a high enough powered lazer to ski cut a slope from a distance? Could we long range snipe a line and see if it slides before we start heading towards it?

Craw_DaddyI dont think lasers can exert very much force on the underlying snowpack and thus would not be an effective tool for avalanche mitigation. This is the same reason we don't use machine guns to do it. The cavitation channel for non-explosive rounds is small and concentrated. You need something that will exert a large concussive force. Explosives release a shockwave that can travel down and across to the weak faceted layers in a large enough area that the weight of the sliding top layer will be enough to break a whole slab free.
