Laser Pointer

I was just using a laser pointer playing around with my cat and an idea popped into my head: high power/quality laser pointers could be super handy for communicating with your partners when scoping out hits, landings and run outs. I know I've had touring partners that are simply incapable of recognizing and communicating the hits, landings & runouts in question to give proper feedback. I feel if I had a laser pointer it could really solve this problem; has anyone ever try this?

I've tried it, but unfortunately the point is too small to really see across to lines (mine was 5mw for reference). Maybe if you had something more powerful it would be usable in misty conditions where the beam is super visible, but I doubt anything handheld will be bright enough to see in pure daylight.

I always keep a glock while I ski backcountry for the same reason.

No lie I was touring in an area operated by Parks Canada and in the midst of switching over for our first lap a small group of people ski down towards us. At first I thought they were coming to poach our run, but turns out they were Parks Canada employees checking for our permits to be there and they fucking had 9mils in carbon fibre holsters on-top on their gear out in plain-sight for the world to see.. I was so bewildered by this and still am, what were they going to shoot away an avalanche? Protect themselves from hibernating grizzly bears?

Tbh if you aren’t packing at least a 40mm u cant even do diy avy control, so i tend to go stick w my m79

A kid from my mountain bought one of those crazy ass military grade green lasers that you can shine at airplanes and shit. He had a house on the opposite ridge facing the ski resort and used to shine the laser at people who looked like jerries to make them eat shit.

You can damage peoples vision with those things, like horribly....

i tried one a guy had one time in breck. They are super cool and you can see the dot across the valley but i decided not to buy one (even though they make great ones for cheap as shit from china) because i dont like the idea of having something that if youre not careful with can easily blind someone.



if i did get one tho i would mount it to binoculars or a spotting scope so i could see the beam light up objects 20 miles away at night.

whatever tho.

also dont shine them at planes because you could blind a passenger or the pilots.

There's a lot of crazies out in the middle of nowhere who would love nothing more than to make a parks guy or DNR C.O. disappear. The hatred of society towards those guys is the reason why they carry.

Great idea, until the laser hits something reflective and burns holes in your corneas after being magnified through your binoculars
