Post pow days better then pow days?

Unpopular opinion: post powder days are better then pow days.
Most of the time I have a absolute blast skiing pow days but going the day after a pow day just hits different imo

- less lift lines usually
- still lots of hidden powder stashes to be found
-crud that you can mob through and catch tranny on
-if you ski park the groomers are really soft and good for trying new tricks on

anyone else like post pow days more than actual full on pow day?

I also really enjoy post pow days because there isn’t the added stress of trying to ski as many runs as you can before the snow is all skied away. And it’s satisfying when you find a hidden woods run that still has a lot of snow on it.

The best thing about post pow days is the drive up is actually manageable instead of trying to drive 2 hours while its dumping.

Post pow days are way more my vibe here in Utah. I get pretty tilted by peoples entitlement and aggression on pow days. Can be really weird / bad vibes on pow days. Post pow days it goes back to being regulars / locals which is just way more chill.

Agreed, I have no idea why people like busy pow days. I don't even bother going up on them cause people are kunts. I'm about that chillll vibe and the day after is normally perfect for that.

When it’s dumping it also makes the ride feel way longer in my experience

also you need to be a good skier to charge through chop, whereas any intermediate skier can wiggle through some pow. Thins the herd.

Utah is the type of state where everyone shows up for fresh turns before 9am and leaves at noon because skiing pretty soft snow still is too hard I guess, but yeah, post storm day weeks after when rope drops happen on new terrain are the best.

I love wind pow days, when there is no new snowfall but the wind blows a nice layer over the whole mountain. Its not very deep but you can go fast as fuck on perfect smooth snow without the craze of a typical pow day.

I find if a run is slightly tracked out on a pow day I'm a little disappointed, but if I get a tiny stache of pow on a post pow day I'm stoked. It sets the bar low.

Plus on a pow day I only ski runs I know, whereas on a post pow day I'll explore with my friends more and find new spots.

The only in-bounds pow days that are genuinely worth it are the days were it's dumping and you're getting free refills lap after lap. The whole after-nightly-storm-rush thing is kinda wack.

the only thing i don’t like about after pow days on the east coast is the pow freezes and then it pulls you down when you ski through it. nothin like the nice fluffy snow

The biggest wind lips form to that you can get knee-waist deep slashes sometimes

Yes and no. As mentioned above if you're getting free refills all day cuz it's dumping and windy, then fuck yeah. Fresh snow > old snow. If you ski a less popular mountain, then pow days are better, but those are also the places you can make first tracks a week later. Idk I love it all. I ain't one to complain about chop though. Anything soft is good in my book. I usually ski weekdays though and haven't been to Utah in a bit so I can't relate to the dbag crowds. The stoke on all the pow days I've ever had is always super high and a blast. Only bad experience for assholes was at Okemo and Killington but makes sense for their proximity to NYC.

Post pow days are so much better, and my mountain has a shit load of hidden away stashes that are usually untouched for weeks at a time.

Blasting through chop and catching little transitions all over are great, and on the east coast it means that the groomers have an actually good surface instead of ice.

Wildlife is also less scared given the lower crowds, and it’s far easier to find animals to put costumes on. Nothing funnier than seeing an elk run through the woods dressed as a policeman.

The best is when the storm comes in late morning the day before the pow day and you get up at like 2 for a few laps and it’s already snowed about 12in and you are getting the goods before the full pow day has actually arrived. Maybe this only happens in BC.

Nothing like post pow day mountain bike trail laps. They get all packed down and you can get cooking thru, all you can do is hold on for the ride and commit.

I honestly feel like 80% of Denver that drives up in a mad frenzy on pow days just does it because they *think* it’s supposed to be a good time when in reality it’s a crowded road rage lift line extravaganza.

Almost everyone sticks to a few runs and generally do not seem to be having that good of a time in 2 size to big boots getting bucked around after 1 run when all the pow is chop.

I guess you have to ask yourself whether you're capable of outsmarting a giant beast with a peanut-sized brain, and glorified antennas growing out of its head. I'm pretty sure that a giant crowd of skiers can put their heads together and manage to squeeze animals into halloween costumes. It'd be like a humane version of hunting; the animals get to live, you get to laugh. I hear a future NS meetup at a safari in Kenya.

Idk why some people even go up on pow days. The other day I heard some Jerrys in the lift line complaining about there being to much snow. Another person was complaining non of the groomers were groomed. Super annoying. The only thing I like about pow days is the big hits. Stomping a fat drop into untouched pow has a different feeling lol.

I live in oregon and i love chop, sometimes it for sure sucks tho, but being able to boost from bump to bump catching tranny and charging through crappy snow is so fun.

Right! I swear people don't even check the weather either, just go up to what they didn't expect and complain about it.
