Things you miss about skiing that you can't do this year?

Hopefully there's not a thread on this.

My tops are:
-Singles line. Easy way to speed through lifts and meet new people and maybe get free booze/drugs.
-Lift conversations with randos. Literally one of the best parts of skiing imo
-Spitting off the lift. Could still do it but probably not a good idea to be spraying your germs everywhere


Also some things I noticed today. If you approach lift lines that are curved like a track, pick the one nearest to the lift. There will be less people in it. Wayyyyy faster even if it looks longer initially and people couldn't seem to notice this.

Singles line for sure. My laps between lessons probably won't be happening on Saturdays without them. Otherwise playing cards with Co workers inside when its not worth skiing, not putting a full jacket on to enjoy a drink, being able to be close to students especially the little kids. Looking forward to parking lot tailgates becoming normalized in MI. Never really saw it here before but resorts are really encouraging which could be fun.

I'm not skiing at vail/ikon hills like you cucks so its been no different. Pathetic the shots of some of those mountains crowds and the reservation crap people are going through.

Also having mountains that aren't awful to day trip on my pass means I don't need to get a hotel room and drink.

Have taken my own chair so far but if there is a queue I won't fuck people behind me just to virtue signal.

Skiing is fundamentally about freedom to do whatever artistic / athletic thing you want in a giant snow covered forest and share that stoke with the people around you. That has been missed this season. This is the first year I’ve felt like it’s kind of a grind.

Definitely miss meeting all kinds of different random people on the lift. My friends and I all used to make up all kinds of weird conspiracy theories and keep the people informed. The government is lying to you!

Oof sending healing vibes, but I guess a sort of silver lining is if you had to miss a season due to injury this would probably be the best one to miss lol (even tho no one ever wants to miss a whole season obviously)

Same here man. I have a baby and a toddler so ill be lucky to go up once this year. Didnt ski at all last year due to COVID and only made it up once the year before. Thankfully I have NS to keep the stoke alive.

On the real though, have been fortunate enough to take advantage of the singles line this year. Copper has been rolling with the "one seat between parties if you're comfortable" so have been able to ride up with and meet some new people. I miss the carefree environment about it though. If you ride up with someone, so often the conversation just goes to covid because of whatever the resort's policies are, and then gets political. I miss dicking around and not having those experiences with new people be dictated by all that's going on right now

I had an epic employee pass last year that got cancelled on me. I want to get an epic again in the future.

Right now no fucking way.

THe mountains on my pass are sold out to the public and nice and empty. Sucks to be you.

Yeah I kinda got that vibe too. I just chalked it up to not 100% open so clustered and no singles line to thin the herd. Hope it's not cuz people have more free time now

My response was more a commentary on your response to this thread. You came in, called everyone cucks, and bragged about how great your year was. A lot of people are having shittier ski years than normal, but they have the pass that they do because that's what works best for them for whatever reason.

We can't all be you. I'm glad your year is going great, but that doesn't mean you have to be a tool about it

That or the "Y" shaped lift lines with 80% of the people on one side. Just skate or bootpack your way around to the other side and your golden.

You win.

Vail the corporation was great for skiing for years with those passes being great deals. Even though they doubled over the course of 8 or so seasons in cost. The epitome of freedom you just gotta get yourself there and deal with a cold car or expensive hotel.

NOW... they bring unprecidented restriction to an industry not known for it.

Even when my Stowe pass had mountain collective benefits it was still a huge bitch paying 50% at Squaw (80 bucks is 80 bucks) vs Epic where the other mountain is free.

Taught me first lessons of the season today. Checked with the parents what their comfort zone was and were pretty relaxed. I was able to ride the chair, help them up all that. Both just asked that I keep my mask on which I would have anyway. Hoping thats a trend and not just lucky for a day.

Skiing with the homies. All my skiing buds are on the other side of the country, and I don't know anyone who skis around here. Can't ride the chair to meet randos either. Gonna be crushing lots of chairlift whiskey this year.

Not being able to go into the lodge to warm up kinda stinks since my feet get numb super easily. It also means I tend to head down the hill earlier if I get tired.

That being said I'm just thankful to have any skiing this season.

Just today my son lamented he can no longer stand at the top of the Ridge and hand out M&Ms to randos as he waits for his crew to make the climb.

Victorian resorts got shafted hard this year. I went with a NSW resort and got lucky. I almost did a season in Buller too. That would have sucked.

Night ski during the week. With COVID not allowing J1 visas my local resort is struggling to fill jobs and reduced night skiing to Thursday-Saturday. It’s usually Tuesday-Saturday.


Wild Wednesday is a no go this year sadly.
