Best Binding for Resort/Backcountry Split

If I were to create a setup that's for an even 50/50 split in resort and out which touring bindings do you guys think would be better? The cast system or shift bindings? Are shift bindings reliable if I want to charge hard inbounds?

I haven't used the cast system but I've got a couple pairs of shifts and they are super solid.

What skis are you thinking you'd put em on?

Cody Townsend swears by the shift and he goes hard. Idk how well they’d stand up in the park though, especially compared to the cast system. Have you looked at the Marker Duke PT too?

Cast is the way to go but if you're on a budget the frame tyrolia touring bindings aren't bad

shift is like skiing an sth binding. with cast you’re skiing on pivots. i have both and for inbounds i thought the shift is a bit too light but on tours it’s killer. haven’t toured on the cast yet but in the resort it’s really good.
cast is expensive if you don’t have pivots already.

try fiddeing with new duke PT 16 or CAST solid has another feel ;)

the shifts are pretty cool for what they are though! but they are more finesse than super solid, but Id ski it over any tech binding, but not maybe for the "dont fall" stuff

I have a couple sets of g3 ions I've had good luck with for a lighter weight setup (if you don't count the heel piece recall which I found out when I surprise went into tele mode). But if I had to choose one binding for everything it wouldn't be those.

imho the use for shifts is some resort skiiing, or near resort or from resort, not resort every day.



duke PT 16 or CAST freetour = you can ski it like you would a jester 16 or a regular pivot... you dont have to worry about anything

skier weight/height is a factor, like I like the shift, but at 6'3 and 230lbs ish, do I trust it? not quite. I dont feel like going 50-60mph+ on it. jester or pivot? yeah no worries.


ohh and anything skied in resort/from/near resort = needs DIN release.

If you have the money.. definitely go for shifts... if not frame bindings aren't bad at all, I have Tyrolia Adrenalins and dont have any real complaints with them
