I’m down to ski whenever, wherever but my friends never want to. I live in NJ so it’s hard to come across true park skiers and I’ve been wanting to make this edit at my high school if and when we get enough snow but none of them want to put in any work. Like I wanted build a big mf kicker so I can grind the field goal post at my schools football field but no one is ever down to do dope stuff like this. What can I do to hype them up to actually go out and ski?

Easy

Step 1: ditch your lame-ass friends
Step 2: cut your hair into a mullet
Step 3: change your name
Step 4: buy a 1997 subaru outback with 200,000+ miles
Step 5: set out westbound towards mt. hood.
Step 6: breakdown somewhere around chamberlain, south dakota
Step 7: become a lot lizard to continue your journey west
Step 8: film an edit

Force them to watch Traveling Circus, all of them. If they do they'll do what you want. If they don't they are simply uncultured swines unworthy of your friendship.

I’m in the same situation man. Kinda funny cause I’ve wanted to build a kicker through the field goals at my school too. Ski hard local and talk to people. It works to find people who wanna ski whether they are insane or not.

I was in the same boat, The most passionate people you’ll meet are usually not the people who live in your hometown, but people you meet at the hill. Unfortunately they usually don’t live close, but it’s still doable to do local shit if you guys can all drive. I hardly even ski with/talk to the kids that live in my hometown that “ski” anymore.

Same boat as you and OP , pretty common on the east coast, hardly anyone skis, those that do just dad ski groomers all day, free riders and freestylers are hard to come by, outside of our small group, everyone I meet either don’t vibe, don’t ski, can’t afford , can’t schedule blah blah blah. The group I’m with now meets to ski twice a year for about 10days each time, other than that I’m solo.

Maybe I was just too high overthinking shit but the last episode kinda made me more sad than pumped to ski

Honestly have this same problem, everyone at my college that I meet that “skis” , usually just goes skiing. They ski 2-5 times a year and they talk about how thrilling skiing the black diamonds is and what it’s like to “go all the way to the top”. I’m not saying this is bad or talking down on these people but my idea of a good day ripping isn’t running down blue cruisers all day. I have one friend who loves to tear all mountain and go on back country excursions but he hates skiing park. This is honestly good for me cause I’d end up lapping park all day if it wasn’t for him. But my advice is to meet people in the park. Become friends with the regulars most people are friendly and welcoming and maybe you make bonds that last life times .

Hey OP, as awesome as riding with friends is, riding by yourself is still super fun. It might feel weird at first, but you get used to it.

The more serious you get about skiing, the more you gotta go it alone and work on your goals. It's just kind of a necessary part of progression that you're finding yourself at right now.

It's not a bad thing at all either, there's a good chance people will think you're actually pretty cool for doing it.

Travelling alone builds courage and contributes positively to your inner dialogue, which benefits your life in many other ways.

When you're riding solo up there, you can really go wherever you like and talk to whoever you like.

If you ask someone on the chair to take a lap with you, they'll say yes. If you meet someone from your hometown and tell them about your goal post idea, they just might be down.

Like others have said, make some acquaintances, make some new friends, dont be afraid to ask to exchange cell numbers and social media.

And if you go up alone and don't even talk to anyone? Don't stress about it. Sometimes those are the best kind of days lol. Just keep at it, and you'll find a sick gang to make the edit.

I grew up in Delaware... So I feel your pain. I moved to Colorado after high school and randomly met Jeff cray from hot possie and we ended up being urban ski buddies. Turns out we both went to the same high school in Delaware and drew up down the street from each other (face palm). So who knows maybe there's someone else just like you down the street asking the same question.

Growing up I always had my regular buddies and my ski crew which were different. I would recommend just going up by yourself, finding a group that skis at your level and see if you can take a few laps with them. If they are chill, get their numbers and meet the next weekend etc.

Yo im also a high schooler from New Jersey! Hmu i will totally ride with you sometime weather it be big boulder or mountain creek.

Sort of related, how do you convince your friends who ski with you at the mountain all the time to ski off the mountain? The people in my crew at Big Sky love chairlifts and hotlaps, not digging features and putting in work to make something creative. They mention "that's sick" while watching movies and edits about an urban hit or backcountry booter but then don't want to put in the effort to do something similar.

Yeah exactly. Not only can you make something out of your own imagination, exactly how you want, but the process is extremely rewarding. It's great exercise that you don't normally get by skiing and the end product is literally a piece of art, made by yourself that you can be proud of.

it also gave me a lot of time to stare at jumps and “think”, visualize which really helped me go from whonky spins to some control as well as allowed me to experiment with lips, enter my pop and just feel more comfortable learning, really upped my mountain game
ill be in big sky on 1/28 for about 10 days, I’ll help ya build
