Always expect a hit when reselling skis

Skis are always worth less than people think. It’s crazy how many people don’t understand this.
Also, you must make a decision when selling skis: 1) expect more money and sit waiting for the right buyer (this runs the risk of marketing exposure and potential costs/depreciation) 2) sell it for cheap for a quick sale.
I’m shocked at how many people don’t understand this tradeoff. Personally, I always go for option number 2. I love to hook another skier up, and hopefully that karma circles back to me.

And your 5 year old ON3Ps with 2 mounts are not worth $500-600. Trust me I love my ON3Ps but those prices get out of control some times your better off buying new ones.

So true, my shop both sells new skis and consigns used ones. I have people come into my shop and tell me their beat to shit skis are worth 600$.
We usually can negotiate with them and drop the price a bit, but we have one pair of 2013 Armada Norwalks with old frame bindings for 550$. They aren't even in decent condition, but the seller demanded they were worth 550$.

I recently sold a pair of skis I bought at sportcheck for $200(original price 500) for the exact same price I bought it at. The bases were all messed up and the dude still bought it all I had to do was put a ski strap on it and he was sold

Good rule of thumb: once a pair of skis is yours, you shouldn't expect to sell it for more than 50% of retail price. The main reason for this is the lack of warranty. A warranty only applies to the original owner, so the new owner won't get any aftersales service should something go wrong with the ski (tip delam, edge separation, etc.). The new owner is 9 times out 10 shit out of luck when this happens and any repairs or replacement is on them.
Subtract $$$ if the ski is mounted/drilled more than once and how used/damaged/beat the ski is.
One thing that could arguably drive the price up from 50% is scarcity/how desperately the buyer wants it.
If the seller gets more than 50% of the ski's retail price, then you as a seller made out and the buyer most likely gets shafted in proportion to how used the ski is.

I do expect a hit, but prodeals and buddies in stores helps a lot, also just buying during summer when you get 50-60% of ... helps a LOT.
