colorado_frenchyThe impossible to find gem!
I've been dealing with paper templates for awhile now failing to find one, not fun but def doable with a bit of care and precision. Happy to share some of my learnings/tips if you end up going down that road.

rubberpantaloonsfuck it i need these skis ready for the weekend so im thinking of just going paper jig. would it work to use a drill press with the proper bit? drop some knowledge on me haha
colorado_frenchyI got those bits https://www.tognar.com/mounting-drill-bits-for-ski-bindings/ in a 3.6 and 4.1, the peace of mind of not being worried about drilling through my skis is definitely worth 15 bucks lol.
For the bit size it's written on the ski, in general, you're gonna use the 4.1 if there is metal in the ski and 3.6 otherwise.
For me the most challenging part of mounting the binding was to find the vertical center line of the skis, after trying many techniques the easiest and most accurate one I end up doing is using a wheel marking gauge like this
Basically, I put a length of masking tape roughly in the center of the ski, then I set the gauge to be a little over half the waist size (example for a 102 underfoot I set it to 53mm), and then using the pen I draw an arc circle by following the radius/edge of the ski with the gauge. You do that on each side of the ski and the two arc are gonna meet somewhere in the tip and the tail. You can then draw a big vertical line using those two points and you have your vertical center line.
Then you just have to find where you want to mount your skis, I usually don't really trust the topsheet marks and re-measure the center and then draw a line wherever you want to mount your skis, for example, 2cm back.
You got that vertical ski center line and that horizontal boot center line, the hardest part is done, now print the template (at scale), cut them to your boot size and tape them to the skis using the lines your draw, and you can drill through with the specials drill bits.
A bit of wood glue or this in the holes and finally use a screw driver, not the power drill to screw the binding, otherwise you can strip the holes.
🚧 Keep in mind I'm just sharing how I do it, I'm no ski tech and do not encourage anyone to follow what I do, if you're not comfortable you might be better off dropping them at your local shop 🚧
