What's dope about Utah ski resorts

Consistently good Snow. Alta/Snowbird turns into a shitshow if you don't get up early, but sometimes, you get the legendary scenario:



Wake up at 4 AM to beat the avalanche closure
Get up to your secret parking spot at 4:45 AM
Snow keeps dumping and there's 3 feet of blower pow waiting to be shredded when you wake up
Canyon road opens at 8 AM for the crowds to pour in
8:30 AM, avalanche across the road, it's a big one, and fortunately no one was caught, but they have to bring in the loaders
Meanwhile traffic stops, and the people in the liftline get the notification on their newfangled telephones
One joyous individual yells out to the uninformed:
"LITTLE COTTONWOOD CANYON CLOSED TO CLEAR AVALANCHE DEBRIS!!!! NO ESTIMATED OPENINGTIME!!! WOOOOOHOOOO!!!!!"
Pole clinks, and yews aplenty follow, and 50 people who got up way too early on coffee and hope get exactly what they were looking for:
No crowds, and 3 feet of blower Little Cottonwood pow, ready to hop on the lift for one of the best days of their lives.

But also the communities, I've found the whole place to be just loaded with awesome locals who are ready to accept you into their circles. And even when it doesn't snow, it's still chalky goodness.

Yeah country club skiing is rare, but when you get it, there is no other feeling. I've only driven up before the canyon closing a few times and never had an all day closure, but I've had a couple days where the line of cars didn't reach alta until 10 or 11am. I've also been in that line and loaded my first lift at like 1030 and I got in the line at 7am haha.

best utah pow day i ever had, snowed 2+ft, I got up bcc by 545 or so, and then apparently an 18 wheeler driver's GPS told him to take bcc over guardsmans to get to PC, tried to get through the S curve and his truck flipped and blocked the road for like 6 hrs. it was absolutely unreal

Insanely good terrain and quality / quantity of snow. Being able to ski weekdays would be a huge improvement though.

Even innocuous lifts like gad2 at the bird are better than almost every lift in CO if you are the wee bit adventurous.

Better terrain than pretty much all of Colorado and it might just have the best snow on Earth and lots of it. Japan might have better snow quality but i have no idea

As everyone above me has said, good snow and huge terrain but seriously the parks here are sick. 3 kings is one of the best and from what I have seen, Brighton has got some heat features.
