Should giving film credit be optional if the filming isnt professional?

I wanted to know what you guys think about this topic. My buddy is a filmer for skiers in the park and he's pretty good for someone filming for free. Most of the people who use his clips in their posts on insta or anywhere else usually tag him because thats just the right thing to do in my opinion. The reason I ask you guys this is that recently someone used clips majority filmed by him in an edit to get a few hundred views, the filmer asked for credit and he was denied because that would "boost his ego too much". So what do you think? Should you give film credit to the person who shot and trimmed your clips?

Give the person holding the camera credit. Seems to be both an easy and nice thing to do for someone who did a bit of work on your behalf. Doubly so if they edited footage.

Person seems kind of chaddish. I mean, do it or don't, but if the person asks you, that's a pretty shot reason to come back with. Oh bro i don't want to boost your ego when I'm posting on instagram to get myself likes.

Person in-question has a massive ego himself and needs to check himself lol, like chill out dude youre not gonna go pro over night, you hardo. He should definitely give credit though. But yeah without question should you credit someone for doing some work for you in terms of filming and editing stuff

Don’t see why you wouldn’t give credit whenever you can especially for somebody who’s taken laps/time out from their skiing to film.

If that’s how he treats people who film for him he’s going to blow through the list of people who would point a camera at him pretty quick.

If you use footy that was shot by someone, be it "pro" or not, give credit, or don't use it.

I accidently hit yes but homie who didn't credit the other guy for filming doesn't deserve to be filmed anymore or hang with the crew or get rides to the mountain

If you use someone's footy, give credit always. Pro or not it's all the same.

Give credit unless the filmer wants to stay anonymous! If someone's filming you skiing, that's time they could be skiing but they're filming you instead, so give credit and buy them lunch and/or a drink.

This. I accidentally voted yes. Giving credit doesn't take much either, especially if it's just tagging them in a post or mentioning their name.

Film credit is the dumbest fucking byproduct of instagram. No one gives a fuck that you held an iPhone for 30 seconds.


But if you went out with an actual camera then you should be given credit because you actually put effort into it.

I find that interesting. That's one reason I started doing my Real Laps series. I can ski while I film.
I have done a few edits, but that does take time from skiing.
Then I also do the Jumping Fun videos where I just stand and shoot. That takes time from my skiing big time.
In the end, several folks have used some of my footy. Most of them have either asked, and or always gave credit toward me.
I do what I do for fun and to share the love, so it's always the right thing to do....credit where it is due.
It took some time, but some folks stepped up to the plate to film me some, and I always give credit, even if they said they didn't care about it.
