The death of the mtn town?

If we had a reasonable national minimum wage, basic health care for everyone, guaranteed vacation time and maternity leave and equal pay for everyone, mtn towns would recover, along with regular towns and regular cities that are also dying. Also the middle class doesn’t exists, you’re either rich or poor or lying to yourself and others to seem cool depending on what you think is cool, seems that it’s usually just the opposite of what you actually are.

PeteMahnObviously socialism has nothing to do with building codes. There's extremely simple strategy to keep people out of certain towns/ part of cities etc and this is a part of that. These are two different topics. The aspect that socialism comes into play is when business are under strict regulation by the government. Socialistic societies approve of big government. I don't even need to spend the time going on about this topic.
Hence why I went on about explain how the wealthy keep people out of where they live such as "Snob Zoning" and the list goes on. Conservative's don't approve of big government which means much less regulation and government intervention.

Whether or not you approve of big government is independent of whether you lean towards socialism or capitalism. You're taking very simple ideas and conflating them with other things that only sometimes align. Conservatives are perfectly happy with big government when it is preserving the social order, i.e. drugs, abortion, police, etc; and most young leftists lean anarchist or close to it.

I agree that the building codes against low-income housing and certain types of regulations on small businesses are harmful to the long-term middle and working class residents of mountain towns, but blaming that on some imaginary socialist boogeyman doesn't make any sense, especially when they go against the exact interests of socialist ideas.

I agree that the long term rental market for folks who live full time in resort towns can be a nightmare. When I moved in with my lady a while back I specifically rented my place to a couple of local students. I got a ton of offers for more money from city doctors looking to lock down a place in the mountains but then who would be able to afford to live in town and subsequently bump the chairs for those doctors? Everyone can make their own decision but I would encourage any property owners to consider a long term rental with locals instead of just smashing airbnb or vrbo for top dollar. After all, if you want to be part of a community you like, people that contribute to that community are going to need a place to live.

katrinaShort term rentals are causing a huge problem in the real estate market and the local town culture too. Locals can't afford to buy in, resulting in towns full of mostly second homes full of rotating out of towner's.

DeebieSkeebiesill keep it short cuz i want to go off on this for days but just do what you can to help out around the communities if you're a member of them, living there for the winter, whatever. ski towns are now looked at in this disneyland-like lenses that they arent communities, they arent places where people have families to support and obligations and lives, just places for 2nd/3rd/4th homeowners and places for cashed-up ski bums working from home now. just seen as places where people can "Get what they want" out of them. that bothers me. Its just poor workforces that get shit all over by each way and its disappointing and something has to give. Shouts out to all the wonderful non-profits that provide food banks and health services, childcare, just about anything in town because it sucks the 5-year local doesnt want to love thy neighbor
