Broken kneecap recovery advise

I messed around on an old skate deck as a snowskate the first day it snowed and broke my kneecap 3 weeks ago. The doc told me my healing progress is way faster than their charts say it should (knee range of motion and extension is where it should be at 8 weeks with no pain), but that it could still be three months before I will be able to ski. Unfortunately that means my month long ( late December to late January) winter break ski plans are probably ruined... or are they? also lmk if any of you have gone through a broken kneecap and have advise on skiing on it with a brace or what your actual recovery times were etc

If you try to push your knee before it's ready, you will regret it. You're trading being able to ski a month early for the possibility that your knee never heals properly. Don't trade a month of skiing for a lifetime of skiing.

I shattered my L kneecap and was skiing less than 2 months later. The first several weeks are painful as fuck and hard to get around because you can't walk.
If you do try to go skiing definitely take it easy, and before going spend time conditioning it. Do the excersizes they recommend because it makes recovery a lot quicker. When skiing try to minimize impacts as much as possible and don't try to ski as you normally do or you'll regret it.
Doctor's advise is probably the best way to go but if you have normal functioning of the knee and have been conditioning it through recovery skiing early can be doable - just be careful and avoid impacts and sudden jerks of the knee.
I'm several years out and can ski normally, however my knee sometimes feels funky when skiing super hard, not painful just weird.
All times are Eastern (-5)
