COVID affecting your home towns?

What up, im just wondering how you guys have seen COVID affecting your home towns. My family lives about 2.5 hours out side of NYC and are seeing tons of people move up there housing costs are sky rocketing. From what i hear things are changing for the worse a blue collar farming town and they are complaining about snakes, bears, and lack of street lights etc. im not saying all the people moving are impacting the areas in a negative way but im curious if you guys have seen this in rural areas across the country. Or if they are moving to destination areas i hear Tahoe and Bend are pretty packed with people trying to escape the cities.

Monday all indoor dining got banned again (WA) - so I noticed driving through down all the restaurants are out building decks and covered tarps and stuff to try to stay open. I think a lot of places are just shutting down, no one makes money selling just food. It’s sad, really. I hope they get the vaccine rolling so we can be done with this craziness, hospitals are full, everyone is on edge, people are over it

Chicago people moving up the shoreline into Michigan, but thats been a trend for the last 10 years or so. If anything it will protect the area a bit from the economic dip that goes with covid.

Heard a rumor yesterday if approved (which it probably will), we should have it in 3 weeks or so. Guessing they'll vaccinate healthcare workers and then move down the line from high risk individuals based on disease and also considering socioeconomic factors. The biggest hurdle is confidence in the vaccines. If there isn't a high enough vaccination rate, it will not be as effective as we need it to be.

I live in Maine, we have done pretty good but we have the most active cases so far during the whole pandemic, only 2000ish active cases, so we're slaying it compared to most.

Dont you think a mandatory vaccine will ruffle some feathers? I'm not about getting one that hasnt been tested and out for a few years we just dont know the long term side effects and overall how effective itd even be.

It's not gonna be mandatory as of right now. Yes that would cause a lot of public outcry if it were mandatory. Even most hospitals are saying it's optional.

Yeah. My hometown is fucked from covid. So many business permanently closed. People with no prospects other than the businesses which have closed. And all for .002% mortality rate. The elites have won. For white Americans the future is bleak. Congrats libs

Yeah i feel like its kind of ruining what people love the area for, i get places change but i feel like alot of the people coming in dont respect the area. Just sucks having rich people move in and change shit

meanwhile amazon profits are up 100% walmart and target 80%. small business are dying, heres an idea open all small businesses and limit what the chains can do just sad

It's been a trend for awhile, as the houses closer to CT/MA/NJ borders get more expensive people are looking further away.

My home mountain basically has zero houses to rent or sell for this winter because of its proximity to NYC. It's a tiny and pretty poorly run mountain but that's not stopping people. I reckon my parents place, which they bought for maybe $200k (it's a duplex), that's practically on the mountain would go for almost 4 times that due to scarcity. It's not worth that much, I can tell you that.

I mean the dude only said the future for white Americans is bleak... and he’s not wrong.

Terry Crews hit the nail on the head when he tweeted to be cautious that Black Lives Matter doesn’t turn into Black Lives Better. Colleges already have pressure to be more diverse and will always pick a POC>white if their grades are similar. Same with jobs. When the NFL has a Roony Rule (you are required to interview a quota of POC for head coaching / senior ops regardless of qualifications).I think MLK Jr. said it best when he said that we should judge you by the color of your skin; not the content of your character or something like that...

Living in upstate NY during this pandemic has been wild for sure. I’ve seen a lot of people come to the Adirondacks and either move to a new place or shack up in their ski/lake/hunting houses and ultimately call that place their permanent home now because there were far less people living up here prior to the pandemic. Also a lot of the stuff coming from Gov. Cuomo made some people feel safe, even though most upstaters like to shit on him or feel that he’s acting like a dictator with all the covid restrictions in place. Even found a new place to live amidst all this chaos but it was tough because it’s essentially turned into a sellers market.

Hiking trails up here were crowded as fuck throughout the summer and fall, even to the point where the parking lots for certain trailheads flooded out onto the sides of the main roads. Hopefully Jore and Whiteface aren’t as packed this winter as the hiking trails have been the past few months but only time will tell.

I’m still bummed about not being able to drive a few minutes into Vermont without having to quarantine but it is what it is.

Waste hill!! fr though no matter how much money is pumped into West it will still remain a shithole.

At least gore is pumping money towards some serious upgrades (i.e. replacing the old dark side double and making the replacement sunway chair more beginner-friendly) but I doubt it’ll be a shitshow there. I feel like a lot of people, including myself, are gonna boot up and eat at the car instead of going into the lodge. Also they’re not capping the amount of pass holders that can be there, however they’re limiting how many day tickets will be sold.

Wisconsin is fucking rampant, 25% of people take this shit serious while the other 75% are in complete denial, it’s sketch as fuck...

also I live in a pretty medium small ish sized town, were were THE hotspot a couple weeks ago but we are still getting 60-70 new cases every few days, its fucked

Dude just no. Nobody in WI cares anymore because it’s been over politicized and only now (during the biggest time of the year for the flu virus) is Covid becoming an issue. Hospitals are always under more stress in fall/early winter.


also it’s amazing you had 50 people in your “small town” that died when Wisconsin only had ~400 deaths in the entire state last week.
