Hey guys, just putting this out there to see if there are any 10+ year og's still around. As NS reaches the end of its 20th anniversary I'm hoping to get a handful of y'all to see where you are now, and get your takes on how the site/skiing has changed over time for an article. Even if you don't hit the decade mark I'd still like to hear from you. So for those who are interested, reply below and I'll reach out. Joined July 2008, had been lurking before then.

I was dropping out of mogul skiing around age 14 wishing I had put more time into playing hockey, but NS and TWalls superunknown got me wayyyy hooked on newschool skiing. All of the newschool segments from PBP/TGR/LEVEL1s I had seen were all basically in super parks and it wasn’t really relatable.

When I saw on this sight what other self taught high school and college kids were throwing down in public parks across the world I was totally inspired to get out there and learn rails and stuff on my own.

I’ve officially been a ski bum for almost ten years now, coached Freeride and did park crew throughout college and right after at Stowe and Sugarloaf and I’ve been in Jackson hole for 6 years, currently managing a restaurant in Teton Village.

NS was definitely my first intro to any Internet forum of any kind and it’s where I went to get TONS of music, entertainment, and photo and video tutorials.

thanks for being such an amazing community! Weird to say but I almost definitely wouldn’t be who I am today with out y’all, big ups!

lurking on an off for at least 15 years with different accounts but I was always more active on the european sites because I felt insecure over my English skills when I was a teenager. Living some years in Canada got rid of that at least :)

Nowadays I visit for the new AT forum, videos and photos. I still check out almost every new video if possible. I love to see younger people enjoying film and skiing.

2004 and was browsing a few years earlier. NS has changed a bit over time. Things I miss are cults, the community in the regional forums, friends online list, windells summer edits. I do still come on a decent amount, but it's nothing compared to how often I used to.

Joined in 2006 because I thought I needed to make an account to play Jibbin, dont know why I thought this. Just started getting comfortable hitting rails on my atomic supercross skis and would click in to my friends skis to hit stuff switch.

This site has brought me hours of entertainment over the years and has been the only online community I've ever participated in.

Also, holy fucking shit I am terrible at skiing for having done it for the past 14 years.

There was some story where some dude basically started from the top of the park and bombed down into a jump and landed like 50' past the landing. His friends thought he was trying to gap one jump to another or something insane like that.


that kinda sounds like the guy at snoqualmie who the whole jump liability thing started with. had hit the jump on a slow day and knuckled, went in for a break, came back out for night riding when it iced over and straight-lined from the top into it. overshot the landing by like 40 feet and got paralyzed in the crash. sued the mountain for compensation.

Yeah that was tough. I guess he racked up like 20 mil in medical bills so that was the main driver for the lawsuit. Probably would have been better off dead tbh.

Might be thinking of snoqualmie. Reason they didnt have jumps for years. 14 ish mil payout. Changed the park game and almost really changed the park game.

NBCskierthat was at snoqualime. some kid on mushies bombed the top part of the park to boost some 30ft table top. landed at the base of the next kicker like 150ft past the landing. his heart ripped out of all the connective arteries and what not. saw ski patrol working on him while riding the lift. it was gnar.


Idk about that but he went long af and was quadro. Real bad situation. I believe it may have been foggy, this was before drop in fences, and he did your typical straight tuck in send. Sucks. Really almost changed parks forever. I mean it had a huge impact but almost brought engineers in to the point you couldn't build a jump without approval from some engineer that doesn't even ski. Would have sucked.

Yeah the medical bills unfortunately dictate some of these. Really your only option whether you believe in it or not. American health care system is shit.

I dont think there's anyway you could case a jump znd then go faster and go that long. I think dude just went full send off it. Maybe speed checked a bunch and rolled off it once and then send it. But the slowest to fastest day cant make up close to how far he went.

I mean technically maybe it can, but I doubt it's why it happened.

I think there were two incidents at Snoqualmie actually. There was one were the guy died in 2004 and in 2007 the guy got paralyzed. I remember back when it happened it actually almost made all the major resorts quit doing parks altogether.

16 years at this point having gone through multiple periods of activity and inactivity over that time. Signed up as a grom posting grom things from 400 feet of vertical in Indiana. These days I'm on the west coast, working in the industry as a designer, semi-regular access to just about everywhere west of the Rockies, and with a particular soft spot for Mammoth.

I've been a member since 2002. Use be on here daily for the first 6-7 years or so but haven't been now for almost a decade I think. For some reason I just felt like logging in to see what it looked like these days and then seeing this thread put a smile on my face :) This was the only platform where I as a Swede could keep track of everything that went down over in North America and all the new up and coming skiers.

So much has happened since, both in terms of the freeskiing industry as well as life in general, but the one thing that has remained constant is my joy and appreciation for skiing. Admittedly I don't spend much time in the park these days at 35 years old, I still admire the style and skiing of Harlaut or Deschenaux than big mountain rippers.

Thanks to everyone involved in creating, developing and contributing to making NS what it is today!

I've been searching for years for video of Pep's slopestyle run where he got hurt, could only ski comfortably switch, and zero spun everything. That might not be quite what actually happened, but that's how it exists in my memory.

Been on for 10 years, but kinda drifted away from the site when I was getting into my career and married life. This site was my daily life and made tons of friends. Getting back in here though feels darn good.

Fifteen years? Dang. Feeling so grateful for all the humans that this place brought into my life.

So much of the community, and most of the fun that I've had on skis, came from this site. The MT regionals back in high school, skiing bumps with Eheath and the rest of the Bridger team, crashing on new friends' floors to ski in June or early season. Montana was never the center of the scene, but we had a mainline to it on NS.

None of my college visit excused absence days were used up during my senior year until I concocted a plan to go to Hood for the first West Coast Session--which inadvertently meant that I visited PLU in Tacoma, and ended up going to college there. Which also meant meeting a bunch of the locals through NS (Rowen, Sam, Josh, Billy, Scott, Wil, Ryan, Nick, Jonas, Kyle, Rachel, Andy, everyone skiing park at Snoqualmie, and so many others), and a guy named iggyskier who was putting together the beginnings of a ski company in his garage. It took some bugging before I came over to his college house and got to see the start of that first round of ON3P. Took what I think was the fourth skiable pair of Wrenegades home with me for the summer. ON3P connected me to so many good people: skiers, builders, folks selling the gear. Being involved for almost a decade was an honor in every respect.

NS connected me with friends at Stevens, who graciously let me crash on their couch and managed to connect me with a pass up there the next year. Then, that connection turned into my first post-school job working in the park.

Big ups to the cults too--got so much support and love there over all this time.

NS truly changed my life, and the direction because it made connection possible in skiing. It was never about figuring out who the best people were: often they were here from the get go. Then it was just a conversation that was awkward to start, and only got better from there, usually bonded by rallying down some run. That's the lasting impression I have: the crew you want to ski with is already here. You just need to meet them, meet up, and then there's history.

Seeing older people who didn't ski the park used to leave me confused: what was skiing like without jumps or jibs? I felt like it was something I just could never leave. But here I am, several years out from hitting any rails. It's my first season in decades without a ski pass. Touring has taken over my life. It's an honor to teach avie courses instead of coaching on the freestyle team. Perhaps the real truth is that skiing is great, but only if you do it with great people. Those people are to be found in the park, or out of it. Reinventing the joy of skiing is natural, and fighting to hold onto what is fading just means you're missing the good stuff to come.

Additionally, all the typing here probably helped teach me to write. Yet another thing to celebrate and be thankful for.

Generally qualifiers, even at the huge events, aren't recorded. The cameras and broadcast trucks are still getting set up during qualis, and the broadcast team treats qualis like a rough test run for figuring out the best plan for the actual broadcasted events. I believe Bishop or someone at NS reached out to ESPN and confirmed that Pep and Andy's runs were never recorded (which Andy said on NS was a good thing).

he changed his start point dramatically. there was a starting knoll that didn't work out when it was slow. he ignored it and pushed off from the top of the park.

Late to the thread, late to make an account too - don't feel qualified to be "OG," but lurked '05-'10, finally made a username in '10 when I discovered PayPal and BST.

Grew up the only skier among snowboarder friends, pretty isolated from ski culture in SoCal, and always felt like a dork for it. NS was the first place to give me confidence that skiing was cool, and that I didn't have to switch to a board to rip park.

Fast forward through 10yrs of fate twists, and most of my significant personal and professional moments of the last decade are strangely connected to this funny little corner of the internet. Life's a trip. Thanks homies - you know who you are.

The most recent skiing I've done has been XC - biking's gotten the better of my winters now that I don't live in New England - but I've stuck with it and NS after a few ACL tears and I know I'll be back on snow one year. Maybe no more pretzels, but natural hits and backflips will be with me all my life. I still come here almost daily during the winter for a content check, too. It's absolutely incredible (and cringe as hell) for me to think about the person I was when I joined NS just short of 12 years ago. It's sad to see how it's shrunk in the past few years, which is obviously due to the major social media sites, but the content team has started putting out good stuff recently that seems to have enlivened things a bit.

RudyGarmischTerrain parks peaked in the PNW in 2006-2008. The shit they used to push at Stevens in the public park was straight up silly by todays standards, huge and sketchy. Utah might have got Tanners ankles but Stevens got his tibial plateaus, never forget.

I remember people absolutely hucking themselves off the three waterfalls. And the lower one was so close to brooks chair. I feel like every weekend I was up there I would see someone getting sledded down from one of those three. Was wild back then.

I think it was a little over 17 years I found this website and started watching videos, High School project was something started on this site which still exists. I chose my college and major based on a member of this site, Met some life long friends through here. regionals used to be the tits.

Started checking the site around 2003 to watch videos and look at pictures mostly.

Officially joined in 2005.

The forums used to be a place where you could get 20 responses to a new thread in minutes. it was a glorious time and place in skiing. everything was new. Seeing photo updates of urban trips or park shoots made our dicks hard for the dvd's that would come out the following fall! Back then uploading a picture or a video really meant something, and it would easily get 1000 views, because this was the instagram and facebook before those things. especially for skiers!

I forget which meme account did it but one of the super big ones maybe KellyChilldaru or ChadsGapOfficial posted a screenshot from her twitter earlier in the summer during the BLM minneapolis protests where she said something to the affect of shoot all of those blacks (not something I'd take lightly or misconstrue as a quote, she said something to this exact affect) and the post blew up and a lot of pros commented on it then she came in apologizing saying shes a woman of god, but clearly did not get the message. It's sad its beyond even being a Trumper or having far right political views, that woman is severely mentally ill and her beliefs are genuinely shocking and hateful. Someone should try and see if they can find the meme it blew up and she got owned and came in saying shes a woman of god and feels bad about it then started backtracking immediately fucking priceless.

I honestly think it got deleted, if I had to guess her kids probably intervened separately and asked the meme account to stop roasting her. Unless someone knows and remembers which meme page it was on, I've searched and I coulda sworn it was on KellyChilldaru or ChadsGapOfficial. The meme was basically a picture of her throwing up the wu tang bird with wallisch side by side with that despicable tweet I just mentioned. The comment section was blown up by a lot of big names and OGs basically disavowing her, then she came in and gave a half assed apology basically saying I regret what I said I'm a woman of god but they're destroying minneapolis and everybody in the comment section was like nah you can't just come back from something like that. Like the tweet literally advocated violence against black protestors. I wish I had it saved it, the comment section was goated. Someone must know/remember this, was the meme deleted or is it just on a different account I can't remember?

Who the fuck has a twitter? I mean my friends and I had them back in like 2010 to dick around on, but when did it become the serious social media of adults? Also, who needs to know your every fucking thought, which seems like that is what twitter is, at least IG and FB have more to it.
