Hey guys, just putting this out there to see if there are any 10+ year og's still around. As NS reaches the end of its 20th anniversary I'm hoping to get a handful of y'all to see where you are now, and get your takes on how the site/skiing has changed over time for an article. Even if you don't hit the decade mark I'd still like to hear from you. So for those who are interested, reply below and I'll reach out. Not a true OG, but been lurking since '09, and writing on here since 2013, which makes it by far the longest relationship I've had with any outlet, and a huge catalyst to where I am right now. Ya'll are the best audience to make stuff for. Thanks!

Finally made an account in Feb of 07, can't remember why. I must have worked up the courage to ask a question in a thread or something. I had lurked for a couple years, and continued to lurk for almost a year after making the account. Have made some great friends through here back in the day, and was apart of a lot of NS history (draw ball, transformice, crazy IF3 and SIA shenanigans, NS meetups at Loon and Killington, The Ski Show with Rogge, being one of the original gear reviewers, NSchat, and winning so many damn contests and prizes with Dan on here. Don't quite check in daily, definitely most days out of the week even if for a split second. Good memories. My being on Newschoolers has defined ski culture for me especially during college.

My first account was in 2003 or 2004, there wasn't even 20k members registered to the site yet. Seen a lot of transition over the years. Really enjoyed the 'team updates' sections that used to be prevalent on the site, like brand specific blogs all in one place.

I joined NS in high school, my buddy Schwags told me about it because he was collaborating with Jeff Thomas on some filming projects and whatnot. I got to tag along on some cool shit here and there- “hey not a pro and I don’t film... gonna straight air your booter today kthx!”

I stop by here every now and again, but happily don't feel the need to get involved in shit posting anymore. Skiing is still my life and my basic park skills are about as bad as they always were.

Joined in February 2005 as a lonely and depressed teenager in Wisconsin obsessed with skiing. Moved to salt lake after high school because of Tom Wallisch’s superunknown video. Attended the U of Utah and eventually founded Vishnu (my bad)

12 years...
Being from Montreal, it's kinda sad to see IF3 and Regionals forums slowly going away. I mostly lurk regionals hoping for something nice in the area, gear talk for some tech advices (old FKS not fitting my new boots, whats up with that?).

This thread also makes me realise that I really need to change my helmet, I've been repping the OG logo on it for about 10 seasons now.

15 years here. Fell off a few years back, but would still come to lurk now & then. This thread is the reason I reset my password, and logged in for the first time since 2017. Think I'll make a habit of it.

I remember lurking the site in HS computer lab, then finally making an account. We would find the best photo and change the school desktops. NS and FREEZE were the only links to real freeskiing I had growing up in a very rural CO town. My only freeskiing friend and I would split a subscription to Freeze, and swap the mag between classes.

I've now been working 12 years in the industry, and like to think NS has something to do with it.

Best old threads were shooping Tanner's face onto everything, and shooping beards on Twall (see below).

Been around since 06'. Went away for a bit, but lurk around just about everyday now. The highlight was definitely winning an AM spot in the Midwest Ski Film Festival and being able to meet up with so many homies (plus show our movie) ! Great times on here, not sure I will ever actually leave. Thanks NS!

Welp, I thought there was no way I was in the 10 year club but I looked at my profile and... sure enough. I got into free skiing/park skiing as a result of a meathead films/ski the east flick my dad got me for christmas on a whim- Snow Gods was the name. I couldn't believe the stuff they were doing. At the time I was probably 12 or 13 and having a snowboard identity crisis. That movie got me to switch back to skiing. From there the internet was my friend in learning everything else about the sport, and newschoolers kept popping up again and again. I made an account when I was 15 or so and spent a lot of my time after school reading the forums, entering the contests, watching edits, etc. When I went to college at UVM, I kind of fell off and stopped spending as much time on NS (more friends, more skiing, more school work, less time for the internet). Now I come back here and there just to see what's changed basically, and occasionally to get a different perspective on skis/gear than the TGR crowd provides.

I'm going on 27 now and I've moved on from the east coast to Tahoe, where I'm working as a fly fishing guide in the summer and patroller at Kirkwood in the winter. I don't really ski park anymore in a serious way, but will still take a few laps here and there. I've moved on to bigger, natural terrain. Last season was probably my best yet, and accomplished a lot of things I'd always wanted to. I'm not out there winning freeride comps, but I hit a lot of personal goals and had a great time doing it with great people. As I've gotten older my perspective on skiing has changed a little bit. I'm a little less competitive with myself, and I have a little less to prove. I'm a lot less willing to take big falls, especially now that my career choices require me to have all my body parts fully functioning.

I'll always be nostalgic about those early days though. Everything was so new and evolving when I got into the sport- there were only a few big names that stuck around and stayed relevant- now there are so many rippers on instagram pushing the envelope that it becomes a little mind numbing to see the shit that people are pulling off. It's been cool to see the sport evolve though, and I feel lucky to have gotten to witness a good chunk of that evolution, though I definitely missed out on the reeaaal OG days.

Joined in 2010, lurked for far longer. Dropped off the face of the earth for a while. Signed in today for the first time in years. I feel like NS/ski gabber helped me actually know what I was talking about back then. Now I am just old and embarrassing haha

I found NS when I was looking for freestyle skiing videos in middle school, but I didnt see the point of making an account or posting, forums were weird shit in 2002. Dailymotion also had better videos/format at the time anyways, like Rick Worbelski's Risky Flip.

TGR's Further was my first freestyle ski movie I owned, had to show everyone I knew the Candide D-spin over Chads. I was fucking annoyingly into skiing as a teenager.

PBP's 1242 in Seattle was my first ski movie premiere. I had no idea who Auclair and Boronowski were when they signed a poster for me, but I did recognize Philou Poirier strangely.

Terrain parks peaked in the PNW in 2006-2008. The shit they used to push at Stevens in the public park was straight up silly by todays standards, huge and sketchy. Utah might have got Tanners ankles but Stevens got his tibial plateaus, never forget.

There was some story where some dude basically started from the top of the park and bombed down into a jump and landed like 50' past the landing. His friends thought he was trying to gap one jump to another or something insane like that.

heard a similar story at Sugarloaf from a patroller, they measured his crater at 120' past the knuckle or something wild, didn't die but got really fucked up. People used to be dumb I guess

I’ve been scrolling through NS for the last 17 seasons and I have to say I like the vibe better now then I did back then. I feel like the site is more well rounded, of course there’s lots of park skiers but there’s also backcountry and RV/vanlife NS’ers it’s still enjoyable to come on hear and read what lots of like minded people have to say. Cheers to another 17 years ladies and gents!!

that was at snoqualime. some kid on mushies bombed the top part of the park to boost some 30ft table top. landed at the base of the next kicker like 150ft past the landing. his heart ripped out of all the connective arteries and what not. saw ski patrol working on him while riding the lift. it was gnar.

8 Years official but I lurked a couple before I made an account. I mostly stayed in gear talk and came for tech knowledge. Agree that the vibe has gotten a lot better these last few years.

I still remember beating my drum and making a fuss over how the mods were ruining the site by banning everyone

Turns out I was right, site is a ghost town now. usually come back this time of the year when the skiing bug is too much to keep bottled up.
