Hey guys, just putting this out there to see if there are any 10+ year og's still around. As NS reaches the end of its 20th anniversary I'm hoping to get a handful of y'all to see where you are now, and get your takes on how the site/skiing has changed over time for an article. Even if you don't hit the decade mark I'd still like to hear from you. So for those who are interested, reply below and I'll reach out. Account only goes back 8 years, but have been lurking for at least 12 total now. This site has been one of the only constant things in my life. Many things have come, gone and changed but skiing will always be something that I look forward to

Its been really interesting how forums in general rose and then fell. I only got the last part of the best years of NS forums but it was insane how active they were. Newschoolers forums were where internet culture was for me growing up and where I saw a lot of memes and shitposts and whatnot. Instagram kinda swooped as a meme platform as well as ski content directly from athletes. A lot of people lament that instagram has been killing ski edits as well. Newschoolers has moved from the one place to get and talk about park and urban skiing content to people being able to see content from a few platforms, so there was never going to be the same amount of energy as people all funneled into the same site.

It is interesting following through the years and seeing how many crews come into their own before fading eventually. There are so few names that stay relevant for more than 5 years which really underlines how little money there is in the industry for athletes and how prevalent injuries are. You always get the same patterns of hating on people for skiing differently as well.

Been a member since 2008. Fell out for a while due to moves and not being around snow (thanks Uncle Sam). Some of the old stuff I used to post (and some of the new stuff) was super cringe so I started fresh.

Most likely somewhere. I have an autographed skunk skin cap now though, signed by Twall, LJ, Khai and whoever else I drunkenly stumbled up to at the steel city show down and had them sign it. Highlight of my winter.

Made an account in 2009 but forgot my password for about a year. Then for a while I'd just post as much as I could so I could get my post count up lol. I still log in everyday and have the same passion for skiing, though I miss being 16 sometimes, as I feel like I was there for the glory days of skiing.
This fall I've been doing an internship here at NS for school, and I got to cover superunknown a couple years ago as a journalist, so that's pretty cool, as I never thought going on a website everyday would lead to that

God damn. I remember when you made that thread. Legit one of the most entertaining threads on NS in my 13 years here.



Yeah 13 years, damn. Lurked in 2006 and told myself I'd join when I could land a 360 because I was so intimidated of everyone here. Got my first 360 around in 2007 and I joined right after.
NS was basically my life, met all my shred homies in high school and the raddest crew in my undergrad through this site.

Took a hiatus from NS and skiing in general from like 2014-2018 to do career stuff and grad school on the other side of the country. I think the break from the scene was good, and I feel like I ski for myself now more than I used to.

Always down to reminisce. Feel free to reach out.

skiing used to be my identity and NS was my life. I got really involved in the M&A forum and made a lot of friends there. Met a bunch of members in person all over the country. Have a group chat going with 1337 and sklar that’s prolly a decade old at this point. Super thankful for this community

2002, I think I heard about the site from Liam Downey hiking a rail one day at Sunday River. Dumont skied up and 270 onto a rainbow box that same day and as he skied away everyone talked shit about him. The good old days.

I first came on around 2002 when Armada was just starting out as I remember reading about it then. Lurked and lost my account details and set up new ones a few times. Always checked in occasionally - now check in more than I have done in years at 48 years old. My daughter at 14 has just put a newschoolers sticker on her helmet so we’re on the second generation.

Found this site after getting injured skiing 2 winters ago and started an account before even knowing what I was getting into.lol
Boy, what a good strange trip its been(met some cool, good people from here)! I started skiing back in 1983 as a little one and I have witnessed the evolution of what skiing is today. I cant claim Im an OG of NS but I can claim Ive been around before there was internet, snowboarding and the twin tip ski. Hit me up if you have any questions.

Been here since 2009, so approaching 12 years in February. Love this place. I actually found it because I was trying to buy new crowbars for my oakley goggles and someone said to check out the New schoolers BST forum. From there I just go fully into the community, movies, gear, etc...

I started freestyle skiing when it came to light in like 1998 I believe. Had a pair of those yellow Salomon 1080 twin tips. I think I found newschoolers in 2001 maybe? Didn’t know you could make an account so took me a few years of being on the site before I actually joined.

I don’t ski park any more. And really only ski weekends and ski trips these days but still live in a ski town and follow the ski business as I worked in the ski biz for the better part of a decade.

Current profile is 8 years old but I have occasionally lurked here for some time before. I am 32 and grew up with skiing and watched it evolve as I grew older as well; back from the days we wore snowboard jackets and all rode Salomon Pocket Rockets, 1080s and Rossi Scratch. Its kind of crazy how for the most part the sport always looked forward to the future and the progression of skiing and ski design and its really been the last few years that we are starting to look back and conceptualize what we all collectively help build. Being older and having kids I dont get to ski as much as I used to but telling stories here and hearing from the younger crowd keeps the passion up. Its one of the reasons I love this site. The forums are actually some of the best they have ever been right now IMO. I actually ended up watching Stepts WEIGHT last night and it really got to me how young the crew all looked. The Stept guys are about my age and its kind of a trip to see them look almost like kids.

I joined December 25, 2004 and have been on daily since. Almost 16 years! I was trying to ski switch underneath the lift and a dude yelled from the lift to stagger my feet. I waited for him at the bottom of the run. He then informed me of newschoolers on the chairift and told me to check it out. That guy was Tanner Rosenthal, a local freeskier who was on Atomic at the time and doing the X Games qualifiers. He went on to found Panda Poles. We don't talk anymore but I am forever grateful for him introducing me to this community.

NS allowed me to see what "newschool" skiing was as a kid in Idaho. I could be in touch with the latest trends and media. It later provided a springboard for my career. I don't doubt for a second that Newschoolers has had a profound impact on my life and I am forever grateful for it. Love it when other media outlets shit on NS, they will never have the culture or passionate community that we do! Thank you to Harvey, Schmuck, Bishop, Krotch and the rest of NS team past, present and future!

This is wholesome AF. NS is hands down how I got to where I am today. I owe so, so much to Schmuck, Bishop, and the rest of the NS crew for existing.

NS was POPPIN back in the day! Definitely had a huge impact on me growing up in Montana. There wasn't much of a park scene, I was still skiing moguls and NS is partially responsible for me ditching the bumps for slope. Sharing edits and stoke with like-minded homies from all over was so powerful for the myself and the freeski community. It got us where we are today and NS is still the cultural hub of freeskiing in my mind. It's more dispersed now, there are so many more people stoked on skiing that it's not as close knit as it was. That's a natural progression though, NS still impacts a lot of skiers and gives kids in small areas a community to vibe with. There's definitely less shit talking now, it was ruthless back in the day haha. I'm interested to see how NS evolves with the times, Freeskiing as an industry has changed so much since I was a young buck. So many crazy talented skiers now, so hard to differentiate yourself. If anything I hope NS can help promote a variety of skiing styles and passions, exposing swerve skiers to pow shredders and vice versa. When styles combine and evolve we all win and I think that's what NS is about!
