eheathDid you even read my post? I said small resorts will have issues, the big resorts will be fine, they will take a loss and make 2x next year. Do you realize how big 2021 and 2022 are going to be for the US economy? Most people are doing fine, I'm sorry to hear about your job and the people you know within the industry, but thats not comparable to the ski industry.
We all know how vail makes money, but with less accommodations means less employees and as far as I know, most ski towns are doing fine. But, this is only going to be a thing this season and next year skiing and other actives are going to be so popular man, everyone is gonna get out and spend money after the pandemic is over. We're talking about an industry that is fueled by the middle class and the wealthy, those groups are doing just fine right now and most will likely still make a vacation to their favorite resort this year.
did you even read my post? Smaller resorts are already struggling with the effects of climate change, let alone a pandemic. Colorado alone sees 30% less snow than it used too. My local ski hill I am from in Pennsylvania bear creek, can't even stay open all winter regularly because it has started to rain so bad it literally turns everything into an un groomable sheet of ice, and they don't have temps for snow-making. That resort used to bank on making 80% of its yearly income over the 2 week Christmas into new years holiday.
I am a betting man, and have done alright investing and predicting futures, I am hedged right now that 2021 will bring its own challenges into the picture which will continue to effect the economy for most in a negative manner.
Burning man is not happening next year and that is in august, and their a pretty loose bunch. No electric forest as of now , no edc, no ultra, no Miami music week, no movement, no coachella, etc. I would expect this condition of life for society to continue for an indefinite foreseeable future, compounded with other factors...things are not looking good for the ski industry as a whole. It is literally a matter of time before the government forces yet another non essential business and service to close for the safety of society.
Side note this is my first year not buying a ski pass since I was 15. 16 years straight of having a season pass every year, this will be my first year just saying fuck it. I don't know if Utah will be implementing a lottery system for passes, but that is what made me say nope in Colorado. The few days I now have off a month to go drive 3 and a half hours to and from Denver to go shred, might not even happen because I don't get the reservation for the day. I used to ski 100-150 days a year, for years, I am just saying the writing is on the wall for the ski industry.
That's a lawsuit waiting to happened...selling season passes people can't even use when the opportunity arises barbecue of the reservation system.
