Refinishing Topsheets - Is it possible?

Hey Newschoolers

So I just got a sick pair of 2015 Moment Bibbys in last week from a homie off buy/sell. He gave me a really great deal on them, but they definitely need some TLC. I've got an edge repair, and some base repairs I have to do, but the topsheets are pretty scratched up just from normal use. However, I really want to go the extra mile on these sticks, and restore them as best as I can. The topsheet is a sintered brushed pattern similar to here from Miller studios. I was thinking about wet sanding them until I get the majority of the scratches out and then raising the grit to give them a nice shine like how they come new. Do you think this is manageable? I know from previous experience working with this topsheet material when I pressed my own skis that it's fairly thin, about .5 mm. I'd definitely have to do it by hand, and avoid any belt sanders.

I know this is definitely above and beyond most normal ski maintenance and repair, but it's really just because I want to try and see if I can get them looking nice and new again. Obviously it's a lot of hard work for no performance gain, but it's something I've got my heart set on.

Let me know what you guys think.

Also, I wanted to do something similar for the sidewalls. I definitely don't have to worry about taking too much off bc the material is much thicker, and more dense, so harder to sand. Just a couple quick passes on the belt sander. Any tips for getting a consistent angle on that?

So I called ON3P up and spoke to Scott, and he said that it's probably not worth it, just because it might hurt the integrity of the ski, and i'd be getting dangerously close to the sublimated part of the graphic, which might just cause smudging. So i might run a little trial on some extra topsheet material I have laying around, and then pursue this further pending the results of that test.

Op if you care that much about what your skis look like go buy a pair of DPS

Bruh I paid $120 for these skis, and $5 for sandpaper.

I’m a budget baller, not on a baller budget. Plus I don’t think DPS even look all that great tbh.

Some tough clearcoat spray would be the only thing i would have done

Yeah I was thinking about that. I think I may do a light sanding by hand to knock off the worst of the stuff on the top and hit it with a clear sealer spray. But I wasn’t sure what spray either. Flex seal doesn’t look super great bc it’s rubber like and acrylic seems like it’s be too thin and flakey, so I wasn’t sure about what exactly to use yet.
