Rossi Axial 3 aka Look SPX 12

So I recently won these in a giveaway and now I'm trying to figure out what to do with them. Ideally I would like to use them for a softer park ski since I have rode stiff skis for a few seasons and would like to have a soft ski in my quiver but the heel piece looks kind of sketchy for park riding.

What's your experience with them?

Depends on your weight. 12dins are too small for a lot of people

I have a pair of Axials on my hellbents, and they are solid. They are definitely better than the griffons I’ve had in the past.

They're good when new, but over time that heel gets wiggly and loose.

I've had some really good luck with this model over the years. pretty sturdy, don't seem to pre-release if you've got your DIN set correctly. biggest issue I had with them early on in my park riding was landing too hard switch and tearing out the brake when they released, but I had that issue with every marker binding I rode too.

Had a pair of 3's and one of them broke at the heel piece for no real reason.

I had a broken brake once out of nowhere, but at least they're cheap and easily replaceable. Also the forward pressure setting is quite bad. It's super easy to setup in a shop, but once you're out skiing and you have to deal with that shitty tab and the plastic below breaking, well let's say that sucks. But for practicality, I prefer them over pivot for pow just because you don't have to deal with putting the heel down and setting it straight all the time after ejecting, which can be somewhat hard in deep snow. They're quite decent for "regular" skiing, but I wouldn't recommend them over pivot for heavy park skiing. But for the occasional park lap/groomer/off-piste they're just fine.

A ton of people use look pivots on park skis and the heel piece on those is even more deadly to the bungus so you should be fine

How often are you changing your forward pressure? Especially on the mountain?


can’t speak on the threes much but I’ve had the twos for 6ish years and they’ve been bombproof, getting probably 100 days a season each year.


most of the knowledge I have in the threes comes from customers at the shop I work bit. Not really any using them for park but lots of agressive free skiers and racers/former racers that use them. Never seen anyone have a problem but then again, it’s not park skiing.

Never used these but the track looks similar to the old px12s which I've broken at least 4 of. Usually the metal track cracks near the front which is only noticeable when you start pre releasing all the time or it explodes on the takeoff of a jump, that was fun. That being said each pair I broke was a couple years old so I got decent use out of them. If you dont ski super hard they should last a few seasons. (Once again I'm relating all this back to px12s so these may have fixed the issues I saw or introduced new ones)

The screw pattern on the heel piece makes it prone to ripping out of the ski, especially if you're taller/heavier.

This happened to me twice and personally I wouldn't trust this binding for my size (6'3" 200lbs).

I love the toe piece, the construction of the heal piece could be sturdier because it lacks outside support. they held up for me for two years and then one day the binding blew out from its mounting plate.

theyll hold up, but not like the sth16 or jesters
