Affordable living in SLC

I took a gap year and rode solitude last season. very worth it.

your best bet for finding a 4 month lease is by looking in the classified section on KSL and finding a random person with an open room willing to do a short term thing. as far as being a pricey spot to live, it depends on what you consider pricey. it definitely used to be cheaper but depending on the room/location/owner/landlord you can probably still find something for like 450 a month. i wouldn't expect to sign a lease for your own place for 4 months though, it'd be 6 at the absolute minimum

yo yo man! Just did the same basic move.Seattle-SLC. Moved down here in mid October for a 6th month lease. Me and a homie ended up finding a place through a Facebook housing group. There seems to be plenty of folks out there with places to rent. Some short term and long term stuff. For a shorter term lease I would Craigslist. However, there are quite a few scams on craigslist. Usually they will advertise a home for rent that was recently sold on Zillow or Redfin. Ask for the address of the house and google it, make sure it wasn’t listed recently. If you sus them out and they seem legit push harder. You can find tax history on properties and ask questions based around there figures. There are plenty of places that need people in them right now.

p.s. moving from Seattle to here is a big change in price. Seattle affordable is expensive here.

How much higher do you think the overall cost of living is, comparing SLC to Seattle? 1.2/1.3x?

Me and my roommate are paying 1300 a month for a 1000 sqft basement, utilities included. You can find a 2bd 1 bath in Seattle for ~1800-2k utilities included. So yeah, Seattle is 1.35-1.5x more expensive. And that goes for a lot of stuff like gas too, usually about 2.70-3.20 is Seattle per gallon. Prices are going down in Seattle but nothing compared to 10-15 years ago. There is just so much money there.
