If your absentee ballot is not received by various times on election day, it cannot be counted in many states.
This post is sort of a moot point because your absentee ballot should be in by now.
This is irregardless of the postmark date in many states. If you are voting absentee, your ballot should have been mailed by now. If not, it is highly recommend you hand deliver it to a drop off location. Don't let post office delays make your vote not count.
Obviously this isn't new knowledge and you should know this already but people are ignorant and considering that many states allow you to postmark it and arrive after 11/3, I'd expect confusion to happen. Hundreds of thousands of absentee ballots are rejected every election due to various reasons; don't let this be one of them. Getting your ballot in early also allows time for correction if your ballot is rejected.
