cydwhitAgreed. Their "touring" line makes so little sense to me, and every time they change a boot up a little I can't help but roll my eyes a little and ask "So what?"
I mean, I think the Zero G is great... Im glad that they made a whole new boot rather than just having a slightly lighter version of the cochise that they used to have...
But the cochise should be there to compliment it... Like, fine change the walk mode and make it better or whatever, and throw in a better liner, but the shell shape and materials was PERFECT. I could make that boot fit just about anyone who didnt have some chonky fucked up foot or an absolute beanpole.
SessionMaybe one day they will swing away from the deluge of "touring boots" that people buy and don't actually tour in.
I think a lot of recreational skiers like 50/50 boots because they're light and walk modes are easier to walk in even if it's just the trek across the parking lot or the base village. I don't think they're going away soon.
OhJayDalbello updated their shell back in 2013 starting with the KR2 Pro, so as long it's a Krypton/Il Moro model after 2013 I'm pretty sure the cuffs are all the same and will work.
Word.
Time to find some old KR2 Pros and snag the cuffs and bolts from em.
Love my Lupo Pro HDs but seeing as grad school is the next 2 years, touring will be minimal and I'd like a better performing alpine boot and I don't want to buy an entirely new pair.
DingoSeanSometimes I wish companies would just keep making the same boot but tweaking it and perfecting it... Im not too impressed with the concept of the new Cochise...
PU lower, but Polypropaline upper? Thats going to be annoying as hell to punch, not to mention the fact that it generally sucks to ski. Im not sure what grade of PP this is, but at least in my experience, most polypropalines are mediocre in ski boots and have bad energy transfer characteristics...
I guess They saved like 100-150g per boot, but thats also really not much in the grand scheme of things... Its still heavier than other boots in its class - including other technica group boots like the Nordica Striders which use a Triax "carbon" blend. Why not just stick with having it be this burly PE/PU boot for the 50/50 guys, or those who want a strong ass boot they can tour with, and put the weight weenies on the ZeroG? or at least use a better cuff plastic.

There are a lot of 130-120-110 boots this year that use a PU shell and a PP cuff. It honestly surprises me every time and I can't believe companies get away with it. Every plastic has its pros & cons, but the list of cons associated with PP is just too long to put into high-end, 130-level boots.
Pettit skis twice a year and K2 backs a dump truck full of money up to his front door( I have no idea if that’s true)......and Seth Morrison is out there daily, hiking and ripping backcountry lines and posting photos on IG on white painted blank skis. I’m not saying Seth necessarily deserves a pro model at his age. But if I’m K2, I’d be god damned sure every pic of him is on the latest K2 ski. I assume we’ll never see that again though.

Seth got fed up with the industry, bailed on all his sponsors and just lives tucked away in Irwin now. When I rode the lift with him in CB I asked him what skis he was on and he just said "the ones I fuckin bought" in a salty yet joking manor hahaha

Make a PA boot or make PU boot. Leave the PP for kid's boots. It has no business on a $700+ boot
I can't be the only one who's stoked on the DPS Koala 103. Im bummed at what they are doing to the 119 because that in a 189 has been my go to pow ski at CB and it looks like they are turning into a noodle with a 4 meter turn radius. But the new 103 looks super interesting.

130 is a price point not a flex index. Just saying some of them ski fine.

Not really, it's usually too heavy. If brands mix fibers in the plastic, it's usually carbon fiber. Dynafit used to make some cuffs with glass fiber loaded PA, not sure if they still do.
PU - polyurethane
PA - polyamide
PP - polypropylene
As a lighter rider (165 lbs) I've been super happy with my Lupo 130Cs - PA/carbon fiber cuff on a grilamid clog. The only downside has been the durability of the relatively soft grilamid, which gets chewed up pretty easily if you do a lot of rock scrambling, etc. (though that's better than making it too stiff/hard and having it crack like a lot of the touring boots of yesteryear.)
I haven't noticed any real change switching from my old PU clog boots (FT, Krypton) to the grilamid Lupos, and I gotta believe that's mostly due to my weight and riding style. If you're a bigger rider or really punching through beat up snow I can see the argument for only riding PU boots.

I haven’t skied the older Koala 119 but I did get on the new 103 and 118 and can wholeheartedly endorse the line. Stupid fun skis, especially for a brand that puts out meme-worthy stuff. I also skied the new Pagoda construction (next season there will be Foundation, Pagoda and Pagoda Tour, instead of Foundation, Pagoda Piste and Pagoda Tour) 106 C2 and it fucking ripped. Call me an old man but I had a ton of fun on them

Boot development takes a long time. Don't hold your breath because it will be '22-23... at the earliest. I remember skiing an Ascendant proto at least a couple of years before it hit the market.
I just realized, there's a Salomon boot lineup with no S max. Is Salmon discontinuing that boot lineup? Cause that's the only boot I've found that really works with my foot.
As twig says it takes time to make perfection. You guys need to be patient. It will be worth it, Promise.

It is unchanged for next season, same colorways as this season. Same thing for the Shift Pro line.
TwigAdded to the description but they are different. The 2.0 and 3.0 get a paulownia/poplar core, the 5.0 get's an 'air poplar' core which seems to be to do with the milling.
So the ct 2.0 is being updated again already? Is the flex softening back up?
yeah - the current/old 119 is a freaking missile in soft snow, yet very loose and easy to ski in pow.
I can understand that DPS want to release something a bit more approachable, but it is a shame that they did not make the 118 a 112 or 114, and just kept 119 around.
I agree with Blister's Paul Forward, the 119 is one of the better pow skis that have been released in a long while (and probably the best DPS ski in like forever (not that I have been on or in truth considered any other)) so it is a damned shame that it will be no more come 2022. Get them while you can, provided you are a somewhat strong skier who likes speed and stiff skis.
By the Description in the Faction Candide models for 2022(CT 1.0 and CT 2.0) it says carbon fibre weave in binding area, so they may have just swapped out the Titanal plate above the edges for a reinforcement carbon sheet. Would maybe save a bit of weight without effecting flex.
If you saw a side profile of them you could see if plate is still present.

Yea I got on pair of the new 118 from my rep its a decent ski. the 119 was the chargiest playful pow ski around and im bummed they made it easier.
