That’s all well and good but overall the brand just doesn’t seem focused on skiing as much. If you ask them they’d probably say that’s blasphemous but heck, their main product images on their site and elsewhere is all trail running or lifestyle. I’m sure their ski division still had plenty going for it but sure as heck not anything for our community, which I know isn’t a big source of income for them but just shoves us to support brands who do.
skidemon22I know about the Chinese conglomerate take over, and from what I have heard, they have largely let Amer brands function as before. However, that isn't to say that the Amer executives haven't stepped in and said that they want Atomic and Armada to focus on race, freeride, and freestyle and Salomon to focus on commercially popular products, like the Shift, Dad skis and hiking boots... Also, their Alpine ski boots have a ton of market share.
To make a new SKU is a lot of work. So while they may have the molds to one of my favorite all-time skis, the Rocker2 100, the actual administrative, logistical and marketing costs may not be worth it to sell

I wasn't saying they had, but that I/we couldn't rule it out, not being an Amer Employee. No one is calling anyone a 'puppet'.
I gotta believe Salomon's exit from the twin tip market, which has disappointed me to the point where I won't even consider a Solly ski anymore purely out of spite, was somewhat of a self-fulfilling prophecy. I'm sure they saw the same dip in the category everyone else saw 5 or so years ago when an inevitable ebb in the market after so many years of boom lined up with a couple of really bad snow years. So they pulled some money/people out of the program, continued to see a dip, pulled more resources out...and on and on until there was no way left for anyone to make a legitimate business case for the twin tip category based on recent results. They believed the business was dying, acted accordingly, and the business died.
It's a false narrative that happens a lot in large corporations.

The thing is a few brands launched back into the twin tip space, with force. Rossi, Volkl, Dynastar even. But maybe Salomon saw it as, we pulled out, we found success with other product categories, let's not go back. This is all just a thought, take it with a grain of salt

Why you going for a boot w/o a walk mode but w/ tech fittings?
I use my Pro HD for the CAST and it's perfect. Wouldn't/can't imagine using a non-walk mode boot for even short tours with that stuff. The ROM helps a lot cause the weight blows.

I rip a kingpin on my whitewalkers daily and being able to not have to pack out my lupo pros as fast I’m so hyped on that! So stoked to get the boot and ride it.

I haven't actually seen this boot yet, I don't think it's in this thread. You're right, a production boot with no walk mode and inserts would be a bold move by Dalbello. I mean, I know a few people with CASTed up alpine boots but that's a pretty small market.

Here’s the boot! I was just talking with my rep about them today. They started making the krypton 130 with tech inserts and a grip walk sole cause so many of their athletes were piecing together their lupo pros with a krypton rear cuff

You are mistaken. The whitewalkers are a true one ski quiver. Do not be fooled by the 116 underfoot, they ski like a 108 they are so quick edge to edge.

So yes you can swap them on and lupo and krypton from this year. Next years krypton boot tho is gonna have the tech inserts already in it and with a grip walk sole

The new Hawx Ultra is the only fully new project for 21/22, but you will see updates to Redster Club Sports and regular Mimic liners coming down to lower price points and other fit options in our range.
You can put a Mimic Professional into an XTD boot though- that would make a killer upgrade for resort days.

I have the ultra xtd no real reason or desire to get into a race boot, it's just taking my fitter some work to dial in the fit on my narrow low volume feets.

As another person w/ extremely low volume feet and shinny shins, I couldn't be happier. Was going to get new boots this season, but know holding off till next year will be the move

Dalbello updated their shell back in 2013 starting with the KR2 Pro, so as long it's a Krypton/Il Moro model after 2013 I'm pretty sure the cuffs are all the same and will work.

BradFiAusNzCoCaAmer has been owned by a Chinese company since 2019 and their ceo is now Chinese. Could be a totally different structure and bottom line for them now. This is probably just because the Newschoolers and Prime skiing don’t have the info yet - but I didn’t see the trace or tracer series. That would be upsetting to me and a sign of the times if they discontinued it.
I wanted to say something about Salomon not putting R&D into new skis but then it occurred to me that they wouldn’t have to even put that much into a new twin tip. A lot of tried and true tech is still, roughly, the same. They’re just really invested in the directional dad charger. Also, their hiking shoes sell like absolutely crazy. I would say their market is the outdoorsy person moreso than the park rat and they’ve leaned into it.
Sometimes I wish companies would just keep making the same boot but tweaking it and perfecting it... Im not too impressed with the concept of the new Cochise...
PU lower, but Polypropaline upper? Thats going to be annoying as hell to punch, not to mention the fact that it generally sucks to ski. Im not sure what grade of PP this is, but at least in my experience, most polypropalines are mediocre in ski boots and have bad energy transfer characteristics...
I guess They saved like 100-150g per boot, but thats also really not much in the grand scheme of things... Its still heavier than other boots in its class - including other technica group boots like the Nordica Striders which use a Triax "carbon" blend. Why not just stick with having it be this burly PE/PU boot for the 50/50 guys, or those who want a strong ass boot they can tour with, and put the weight weenies on the ZeroG? or at least use a better cuff plastic.

Agreed. Their "touring" line makes so little sense to me, and every time they change a boot up a little I can't help but roll my eyes a little and ask "So what?"

Maybe one day they will swing away from the deluge of "touring boots" that people buy and don't actually tour in.
