Advice on the dealing with “that one guy”

That one guy that you and the homies randomly see around the resort... He asks if he can ski with you and nobody objects cuz they don’t wanna hurt his feelings... In reality you hop on the chair with this dude and you already know he posing.... wyd?

Like not even joking I now feel like I need to apologize for doing that. I'm definitely not the poser part though, I just don't have friends that ski.

But honestly what is the real crime, charging 8 bucks for a shitty slice of cheese pizza, or actively shoplifting from your resort (thats rhetorical, don't answer i dont care)

word maybe stealing from “for-profit” ski areas is alright but really stealing from a local hill is pretty fucked up

Yeah, I was mostly joking. if "that guy" is just inviting himself to ski with you, let it slide. But if he is toxic and a poser and all that shit, shun him.

What are ya, like 12 bud? If the dude's not an asshole, I'm happy to ski with him. If I'm not at my home mountain, I'm that guy anyway. Much more fun to meet some random dudes to shred with. That angsty "me n my crew against everyone else on the mountain" view is bullshit.

Why yall hating on this dude that doesn't want to be affiliated with a guy who screams at people from the chair and acts like an all around goon around the hill. Maybe he worded it bad in the beginning and sometimes I feel like that guy cause I didn't know anyone when I first started skiing but skiing at the same small park everyday for 2 years you're bound to go up the chair with familiar faces. But I'm pretty sure he's describing a different guy, like there's kids at my local hill who will always try and ride up the chair with me and be generally annoying sometimes but I just kinda deal with it cause they are kids, if they do someshit that pisses me off I tell them that their being dickheads. I don't turn a blind eye to it and gossip about it later on NS. So that's my advice to OP, let him know that he's being a fucking ass and maybe he will stop being an ass because he doesn't want to ruin rep with the local crew. Worst case scenario he stops riding with you, but it kinda seems like you wouldn't mind that sooo yeah.

Pop a huge bonedawg everytime you go on the lift w him and gently rub his inner thigh. As long as you don’t make eye contact its not gay and he probs wont wanna ski unless he’s super desperate or super gay. Cuz the original post made it sound like he was talking about any solo skier who asks to ski with folks. That's a lot of us many times.

I feel this big time. Most of us are really progressive skiers, we just don’t have any other friends that are. Also isn’t skiing supposed to be about community values?

The OP may have come off as a dick but depending on where you ski he kind of has a point. If you ski extreme terrain or sketchy lines you need to know your crew is on your level and you can look after each other. If some random dude comes up and wants to do a lap and you end up on top of a rock line or chute and he tweaks out or cant hang then that can put you guys in a bad situation. Even tree skiing, you really need to make sure your all accounted for and if someone is really slow you can lose them and worry about falling in a tree well etc.

Ive been that solo guy before and my general policy is to find a crew then follow them for a lap without really interacting with them. If it looks like they are a cool crew and generally on my level ill then ask to ride with them for a while. Sometimes its cool to ride with them but keep your distance to where they know your all going to look out for each other but they are not committed to having you as part of the group.

I remember one time at Snowbird I was lapping Mineral Basin and was hitting the Fauna cliffs at the end. This other random dude was doing the same and we always kind of ended up at the top of the band at the same time. We never said a word but at the end of the day we saw each other at the top of the lift and just kind of nodded to each other in acknowledgement we both threw down and skied off in different directions. It was a pretty cool moment.


Lol Once at Monarch I hiked Mirkwood on a pow day and ended up with 2 instructors with their clients. I asked to ride down with them and we all got super stoked mobbing down and I think they kind of ended up ignoring their clients that run. They didnt ditch them or anything but we were all yelling and hollering at each other and at the end their clients had this kinda pissed look like, "Yeah, thanks for the instruction on that one..."
