Getting into the backcountry

My friends all have touring setups and I’m broke as shit currently and can’t buy a setup. Do you think with snowshoes I could still keep up and tour with friends? Any advice?

seen so many of these threads lately and I just have to say it... you should always factor in the cost of an Avy 1 class into buying your first touring gear, without proper training, you are a liability not an asset, no matter how many years you've been skiing. also to answer your original question, if your friends are the slightest bit fit, you probably will not be able to keep up with snowshoes if the snow is light and/or deep. if the snow is dense, your friends are slow, and you're a big cardio guy then you might have a chance just take avy 1 please

Yeah man my friends dad teaches courses on avalanches and is going to run a course for us.

No I don’t think you will keep up and your friends will not want your snowshoes in the skin track
IMO you are almost better just hiking in your ski boots over snowshoes in most conditions anyways

If you're just hiking out for side country booters I think you'd be fine, anything long distance is gonna suck ass on showshoes. I'd recommend a set of Daymakers, they aren't the greatest ever but they are cheap and get the job done.. or even go for a set of Guardians or Adrenalins which aren't much more expensive than daymakers and in my opinion are a pretty versatile setup, not the most comfortable tho. either way you're looking at $300-$400, plus skins in the $120 range. Kind of pricey initially but well worth it.... Oh and definitely don't forget avvy safety

For my first set up I just picked up a cheap lightly used pair of bindings on eBay or whatever it was. Fritschis did me just fine for many years until I upgraded.
