Anybody built anything cool, have a local DIY park? I haven't done too much. Mostly just built a few mini ramps. Finally got to fuck around with concrete last month at a DIY park by a friends house. Def trying to do more but also down to see what some of you guys have built, cool parks in your town, etc. Any good tips on building stuff. If I ever buy a house, which is unfortunately pretty unlikely, I'd love to throw a little 4-6' pool in the back. Maybe someday.
Bened_notnilHelped a friend build a halfpipe over the summer. It turned out okay. I've built a couple of backyard ski setups and a few dirtjumps for biking too.
did my first DIY jersey barrier quarter this summer in toga. Went pretty well. Next project is going to be attempting to pour an 8 ft curb. The real question is what grinds better, Safety yellow, handicap blue, or cali red? lol

This is a pretty sick watch if you like diy pools. They've also builtt on since and you can transfer into another bowl. Shits sick. Really good edit on there showing the progress all the way theough the first bowl build.
My dream is to someday build a diy bowl. I've wanted to work with concrete for so long and finally got a taste this summer. Also now that I'm into skating and checking out tons of parks.
I've been trying to get into skating...
probably actually get into it after the ski season. I've thought about getting some homies together to build something. not too crazy but build it it some old abandoned parking lot or something. We dont have a skate park in my town so I'm going to try to make something. But not sure what to build. Any suggestions?

I've built a couple minis. You can built a solid one with new material for like 500 bucks. Could be done cheaper skimping a bit and obviously any decent free lunber goes a long way. Just don't skimp too much on supports and ply unless you want to risk putting a hole in it or having it bounce a bunch.
Idk i felt like that helped me a bunch get comfortable on my skateboard. I was kinda past fucking around with much flat geound stuff though and rails. Learned on ledges but didn't have a park near me and mini worked in the yard.
For space to fun ratio a ramp is pretty dope. Get the squad together grill some food and shred.
If you're town is cool can just skate around and learn that way and look for spots, maybe find a place to modify a bit.
Also can build a shitty ledge or rail for cheap that fits in the whip to bring to a parking lit here and there.
When I had my ramp in the yard for a few months this spring I skated pretty much every day. Even if you're not feeling it it's right there.
Some people don't like transitions though. So depends. I honestly wanna build another because nkw that ive been skating bowls and stuff I'm way more comfty skating and more open to try new tricks on a small ramp.
Diy stuff is cool but def get a feel for the area. Dont want to build too much big stuff and have it get shut down right away. It's always a gamble though. Some small things that add to a spot but are kind of incognito seem to be a good start.
I was building dirt and wood ramps for biking since I was 8 or 9. Built a decent 6 pack of dirt trails with some other kids a few years later. Have built a few mini ramps and other stuff. Welded 20 something features for skiing prolly. Did 14 seasons day staff parks and now going into 5th season in a cat.
All I think about is building shit. I like working with different materials. Concrete always seemed cool especially the diy stuff. Honestly getting to fuck with a bit has me even more hooked. I just want to learn more about it, better ways to do stuff, and get to skate some features I've built or helped with.
I would love to get some land and build a little 4-6' bowl. Grab a mini x and then get sendy from there.
I need a new hobby but it's too late for me. I like building shit as much if not more than riding it. I've spent seasons on day staff trying to keep everyting perfect.
Snow lacks permanence though. Nothing wrong with it and it's cool. I like that concrete lasts if it's done right. Idk it's another animal but the same stoke.

Haha yeah I was just joking, I only posted that because im a builder and I hate doing flatwork more than anything else. That being said, any method of building is awesome if you're passionate about what you're making. I imagine building concrete skate ramps would be pretty fun. I assume its done with a fuckload of rebar and gunnite, just like a swimming pool.
The DIY in my city has been fucking amazing this year with new features popping up every week. There’s one park near me that was super shitty and only had a few prefab ramps, and a bunch of guys got together and completely transformed it into one of the best parks in the area.

little1337How is it working with concrete? I've heard its hard to get it smooth but is it doable in a DIY build?
It wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it would be. I don't know a lot about it so for thread excuse any ignorance that Im about to post lol.
Seems the more you work it thw smoother you get it. I'm OCD and spectrum enough to want to just sit and make things perfect forever..
I was wondering how it would be but once it starts to set a bit you can really polish that shit. Also was cool because some of the guys from grindline that were building a park in a the same region came down to help so was cool to work with people who know what theyre doing.
Idk it was cool to see how smooth you could get it. I just wanna fuck with more concrete now. Wish I got into it when I was younger. Would have been easier to find a place local ish to build a few things. Now I'm too all over. I wanna send it on a small 1/4 sometime and see how I do and go from there. I'm sure it won't be perfect but i think I could get it pretty damn smooth.
I felt right at home though. I've work snow in different conditions for years, obviously different but something about smoothing things and getting that nice transition as well as smooth surface felt pretty similar. Just different tools and different material.
The thing with qps too is you can smooth it out with a 2x4 and thats your shape, then just polish the surface. Bowled cornerd and hips you have to jeep checking the transition to make sure you dont have high spots and low spots and then smooth it all. The rainbow arc deal seems to be the move, probably for everyting.
Idk i was impressed at how smooth you could get it. It's a lot if work but nothing that crazy. Especially when I've seen plenty of skateparks that were super wonky.
If you have a place and some friends I'd say give it a whirl.
Here's some pics of this one near rochester. It was around a 20 yard pour I think. I really had no impact other than need people, but I really enjoyed getting a chance to move it around stack it both from the bottom and top, and get to work it and smooth it out. Def something I want to do more off.
Hopefully I can find more chances to throw my free labor at in the future and learn more. Concrete is friggin cool.
I've been saying the last year I want to get a house almost just to ruin the backyard and piss off my neighbors. Actually pretty reasonable and not loud as far as neighbors but look at this beauty diy build from last summer. From Skate DIY
Cahaldid my first DIY jersey barrier quarter this summer in toga. Went pretty well. Next project is going to be attempting to pour an 8 ft curb. The real question is what grinds better, Safety yellow, handicap blue, or cali red? lol
yo…that’s my home park. I’ve probably skated with you before haha

holy shit you made the red curb that showed up this summer too didn’t you?
