Sure. Those few hundred yards resurfaced the base to a degree.
There are better ways to do that which would make the base flatter (metal scraper), but hey, sand is an abrasive.
Now they just need to be waxed up real good for snow time.
Crazy how fast it grinds it down. Even just the wax. Hit some huge dunes in Namibia a few years back. First run was sick, first half or naybe all second run was pretty sick. Other runs got pretty dicey.
Dude we were staying with had made a sled out of masonite or something. I polished it a bunch before we went. That thing ripped for a while. Im sure the spread out surface area helped.
But people always complain about spring snow taking down the wax on their base fast. Friggin sand just strsight stone grinds that shit.

What dunes did you hit? How was it?
Duuuude sandboarding in Namibia? ROWDY CLAIM! What was the sand like? Grabbed this screenshot from Google Earth:
Yeah you definitely have to wax your P-tex every single run or it just doesn't go.
Interesting to hear about the masonite. I wonder if Skatelite bases would rip?
Tried a few different things:
- Great Sand Dunes National Park
(Colorado, May ππͺπ) Kid's Skis without wax
- White Sands National Park
(New Mexico, August βοΈπ‘) Skateboard deck
- Skull Valley "Knolls"
(Utah, May π¦βοΈ) Electric Mountainboard
- Little Sahara "Sand Mountain"
(Utah, October πΎπ) Snowskate
- Nehalem Bay
(Oregon, May ππ¦) Snowskate
- Oregon Dunes State Park "The Caldera"
(Oregon, May ππ) Snowskate
Think I've got it dialed for the snowskate. Interested to keep experimenting with different sand and different gear.
Next phase of testing is different bases.
Got a few science experiments in mind (writing em down for my notes later), I've just got to bring myself to sacrifice a snowskate and rivet a bunch of different stuff on its base:
1. Stainless steel sheet metal waxed with a mix of beeswax, linseed oil, and mineral spirits... maybe just straight up WD-40.
2. Formica waxed with a goats milk soap bar
3. Dura-Rite dry erase board waxed with ski wax spray
4. Exterior grade plywood with floor sealer and Orange-Glo
5. Exterior panel of a car, extra truck bed paint, and waxed with car wax.
