Winter roadtrip west

pmbI have an IKON/EPIC/Indy and want to do a low budget college road trip for most of January from colorado to a few states around there. Has anyone camped in the winter where temps can be around 0 at night? Does anyone have any suggestions like renting rv's for under $2k a month or ways to stay in cheap hotels? Car camping? What are your suggestions?

Car camping isn't too bad as long as you have a reliable vehicle. Will you be by yourself? What vehicle will be taking if you're driving?

Hostels if there's one at the resort.

Either get an old RV/van or at least have some type of reliable suv like a 4 runner that also has quality room. Build a bed of 2x4s and slap a mattress and memory foam pad on there and you will be pretty damn comfortable. crack a window and a propane heater should do the trick. The worst thing is with heat like that your gear will never dry everything will always be wet due to propane being wet heat. Id probably have bins for dry and wet clothing keep things separate and neat. Having a small portable grill is definitely efficient for food as well as a jet boil or small camp stove that way u can just get a big tank of propane instead running off little cans. Definitely insulate the windows with foam or something to. Also being in college I definitely would find it more comfortable to move around for 4-5days then come back home for one or two to rest and dry stuff out otherwise it just gets to be wet and gross.

Car camping in the winter is really not to bad. Number one rule is just to not get wet. All your shit will freeze and be cold af. I usually start the car as soon as I wake up and throw my gloves on the heater. I also rap all my ski gear in a tarp to keep my ground pad and sleeping bag dry.

You gotta have a nice sleeping bag. Doesn't have to be expensive just warm, picked up mine for $50 its the heaviest bag. When your car camping though weight isn't important.

We did a big trip two years ago a couple BC resorts, Tahoe and Montana. It was in January so it was pretty cold and blowy everywhere.
