Help needed with a one ski quiver

Well hello again.

it's been three years at least since I've been on here. I'm out of the loop when it comes to gear. plz help.

I'm currently looking at getting QST99's with salomon shifts. What are people's thought's about the shifts and what can i expect from this setup?

Also, the sole length of my current boot is 318mm. I think I might get new boots at some point and I was thinking about how flexible this binding is when it comes to small variations in sole length.

Also also does anyone have any opinion on whether to go for the QST99's or 106's. I have heard that they are quite different. I ski the alpine resorts mostly about 40/60% off-piste/hardpack (taking the lift up and skinning from there). I'm a light skier and semi-aggressive

What skis have you used and liked or disliked in the past and why?

Shift is great, especially for lighter skiers. Finicky to set up initially but once they're adjusted properly they work well. Shifts should give you a full mondo size bigger or smaller worth of adjustment.

Thanks! I ski european resorts where proper powder days are pretty rare. I have been riding the CT 3.0 at 186 which was fun but I found it too soft and I’m moving away from bidirectional skiing in general which made me look at other options like the QST line.

In my experience, a 106 and a 99 don't ski groomers majorly differently. You'll notice the 106 giving more float on pow days though. If you're looking more at directional skis in Europe, I've heard great stuff about the faction dictator 3.0 and patrollers at Snowbird in the states like it a lot. I've never been a huge fan of Salomon's skis, but they're not bad either.

the build/specific ski matters much more, than the 99 vs 106 width. though. sometimes the mfg will really stuff one of the models, while the other one is great, such is kinda the case with 99 vs 106 qst.

I ski the french alps and ones in a while I make my way to Norway to do touring with some buddies there. Basically I’m looking for a touring ski that will hold up in the resort as well.

Super solid option, it’s a twin but still directional. Recommended point is pretty far back from center and the ski can do just about anything

Heard it’s very soft though, and will it be good for touring?

Really didn’t find it that soft, but I’m 5’11 and skied the 188. Pretty good all mountain flex in my opinion and it’d be a fire ski to tour on because it’s so light

BC100 is not soft, tails are actually superstiff, fairly solid underfood as well, shovels could have been stiffer, but Im 105-110KG



I have it with a shift on it for touring, but also used quite a bit in resort, could definetly be a ski for you.



Ill let you test if your near Oslo ;)

Which CT3.0? The one that was 108 underfoot or the new one that’s 112? The new one is much stiffer than the old one.

Im actually getting the volkl blaze 106 next week, might try it touring indoors just to get a feel for it! :p
