Surfer Mag announced today that they were shutting down today. was started 60 yrs ago. sounds like 2020 ate their umbrella company alive and they don't have funding, Powder is under the same company. Same with NS...uh oh
F NS is one of their products too. If you are reading and thinking of trashing the NS brand just sell it to me TEN admin dude. Seriously look me up or send me a DM if it had come to this

I don't think that this is as true/universal as some people make it out to be. Yes a lot of videos have gotten shorter, but I think there is a potentially growing demand for physical/tangible things. Vinyl record sales have blown up in the past 20 years. Also look at the popularity of unboxing videos and stuff like that.
IMO the downfall of main stream ski magazines is that they were forced to dumb down their content to appease advertisers. Take ski reviews for example: anybody who knows anything about ski reviews knows that magazine reviews are just ads, and they will pretty much never say anything bad about a ski, or any brand for that matter. Rather than ski magazines being outlets for people to share their opinions and thoughts about the sport, they have pretty much served as ads for the sport as a whole, devoid of controversial opinions or critiques of the sport.
That's why its so refreshing to pick up an issue of SnoVoid - there are actual opinions in the articles and they aren't afraid to make fun of big companies like Volkl and Head. I'll pay 20 bucks for a magazine if there's actual thought provoking content in it. Every issue of Powder I've picked up recently has seemed so formulaic...all of the articles have seemed to appease the EPIC and IKON skier's dream of being a "ski bum," or make crusty jaded 40-somethings feel better about being crusty and jaded. That part I actually liked but it got a little old for sure.
Man, this is kinda heartbreaking. But with how media in general has largely switched to all digital, I applaud Powder and the other magazines under that ownership umbrella for lasting so long.
As a kid, I used to cut out all the best shots from each issue and put them inside frames, and hang 'em up on my wall. I'm sure a lot of us did.
Just find everyone who watched the 37 min raw LTC and send em a magazine sub request

Super sad to see them go along with Surfer mag, but hopefully theres a future somewhere for the writers and contributors. Also if NS get's shut down, we riot

If NS gets shut down we immediately start a gofundme. This community is the entire reason I ski and I refuse to see it go down
I wrote some thoughts about this all. It hits super close to home - I got my start in the industry through NS but Powder was always the gold standard I looked up to as a photographer. I can't explain how excited I was when I found out I was getting my first spread in Powder. That magazine has filled a complimentary role in my love for skiing and the way I consume stoke.
