This Is Our Saga

By definition, a saga is:

• A dramatic history of a group, place, industry.

• Any very long story with dramatic events

From the very beginning Saga looked at the outerwear industry hill to climb as an exciting challenge. We broke into the outerwear industry because no other brands were providing products that fit the bodies and needs of the athletes we surrounded ourselves with.

We stood up against every other brand, small and large, and watched over the years as they came and went. But we stayed. We stayed because we believe in what the brand stands for and what the brand provides to the community and to you. We stayed because the community continued to support us.

Even after a year when our warehouse was broken into and hundreds of thousands of dollars of unreleased product was stolen from us, the community stuck with us and we survived.

Even after we were forced to reduce our staff to bare bones and move from our home in Salt Lake City to Boulder, Co, the community stuck with us and we survived.


And most recently when our entire staff was furloughed because of the Covid-19 pandemic and the brand went into “sleep mode”, the community stuck with us.

This is our Saga, it’s truly never-ending. Our passion for snow and creating products to support your love of the slopes. We aren’t going anywhere. Our passion for snow and your support for the brand continues to keep us going stronger than ever.

I remember buying my first Saga jacket back in 2010. By the time it got to me in Canada and duty fees were tacked on the jacket cost me 448$. At the time that was more money than I could spend but I was so still so damn stoked to finally own a piece. Still have it today as memorabilia.

Recently purchased a full Monarch suit still have an OG saga jacket (that I turned into a vest like a dumbass) and multiple fatigue suits. I love that saga has managed to grow with the skiers it started with and offers more technical gear now as well as the classic OG styles. Also the end of year sales are unbeatable. Can't wait to see what is in store for the future.

I hate it when ppl say “nobody asked”. Such a childish response and its stupid asf like nobody asks for 90% of anything whether its skiing content or general conversation etc. it just happens because ppl naturally wanna share shit that means something to them. What if every time u posted on IG you got called out cuz nobody asked.

I still have a saga shell from like 6 years ago that I use almost every time I go skiing. It still looks brand new and has absolutely no problems, plus its pretty stylish too

I have a closet full of Saga from the past 6 seasons.

Love the brand and #sagafam support.
i haven’t been able to find anything else with a fit I like for skiing, great for working out in the elements. Monarch bibs are the best pants I’ve ever worn. I’ll probably continue to support Saga for the next several years still. Keep it up!

Sorry you guys feel so protective about companies that are just trying to squeeze money out of you. All I'm saying is Saga has been spamming the NS forums in a desperate attempt to regain their standing w/ the community they fucked over and ignored so they (and you) shouldn't be super surprised that people are a little ruffled by the fact Saga is back at it with a stickied Ad thread that contains no content aside from self-pity

If we had posted this as a news article there wouldn't be a space for comments. We wanted to involve you and let you discuss instead of just sending out a press release and calling it good.

This is so true. People who say "nobody asked" don't understand how normal human interaction is supposed to be. You don't need to be asked to say something.

Also, Saga is a great brand. I've had multiple pieces of outerwear for 4 seasons and it's still perfectly fine and it looks dope too. Hating something just because it turned "mainstream" is so wack. Just cause little kids wear Saga doesn't mean you can't either. The outerwear you wear isn't about how others perceive you. If someone judges you based off nothing but your jacket, then they're a loser.

The OG "Tuxedo" colorway is prolly still my favorite jacket thats ever come out.

Been rocking the tan Anorak for the past few years and have bought countless hoodies/T-shirts and other random stuff. My only suggestion would be to either eliminate the cuff-thumb holes or make them much more reinforced. Mine tore pretty much the first day I wore it, but its not a big deal. Prolly also about to scoop up a pair of black bibs for this coming season.

Always loved Saga and pumped ya'll are still around!

all my closest homies bought Saga back in the day. One of them bought the PB+J combo, I think it was a part of the 2011-2012 kits... I followed suit by getting Durtschi's pro model jacket and some yellow pants to boot. I looked ridiculous, I'm sure. But I loved that kit hahaha

Eventually I wised up and bought better looking stuff, all from you guys at Saga. I haven't owned any other brand's clothing since 2012, and don't plan on switching. Saga stuff is comfortable, functions well, looks good, affordable for my budget... gotta love it.

You guys need to stop doing this. We've heard your story, we've heard your excuses. Repeating it over and over won't change anybody's mind about what they think actually happened. And for many people (myself included) who were willing to give you the benefit of the doubt, this message (repeated over and over again) is actively off putting.

If you want to win back this community's trust, and you want to be held in high esteem as a core company that is appreciated by freeskiers, do it with your actions. Get involved in the Newschoolers giveaways that are happening every week, spread some stoke with an online video premiere, run a contest that gets the community involved and gives gear to the winners. If NS is part of your core market, get your gear into the hands of NSers. The older members remember the role that you've played in freeskiing. The younger members know you as a company that failed to ship preorders and didn't offer refunds. They have no idea if your gear is any good, and they don't know the history of the brand. Show that you care, get some gear into their hands, and maybe that narrative can change. The inside of my Saga softshell says "Word of Mouth". Right now your word of mouth is awful. A few gear reviews, and some chatter about positive customer service experiences on here can go a long way to change that.

The freestyle segment of the freeskiing market needs an outerwear brand that represents our style of skiing. Nobody wants Virtika to be that brand. Step up, go above and beyond on customer service,make the gear that this market is looking for, and stop making excuses.

In regards to putting gear into the hands of Newschoolers, I will argue that Saga has given out more product over the years to events, clubs, team riders, skiers that have lost sponsors, etc. than any other brand in skiing. Just ask Windells, Woodward, TAFT or one of the 40+ school clubs/teams that we support with free products and half off discounts.

Just because you don’t always see us advertising what we do with website takeovers and what not doesn’t mean we aren’t working with the community. We typically choose to save those funds for our athletes and their projects.

Absolutely can confirm. They're the outerwear sponsor for the CSU Freeride team and the amount of support they've been able to give us compared to other brands us unmatched. Whole team is Saga loyal...one of the best sponsor relationships we've had!

Bro why is saga getting so much hate? IMO they’re one of the most involved brands in skiing - I’m a staff member of my university’s ski and board club and Saga consistently has amazing brand reps and consistently gives us free gear to raffle off year after year. I love working with them.

Thanks for the response. For what it's worth, I am rooting for you. I have been a Saga fan in the past and I hope to be a Saga fan in the future.

It makes sense that type of promotional-inventory management strategy would go under the radar for some people. It would be great if Saga started producing video content again.

trackpants are hot af these days, check out fyve they're selling like hotcakes. Even armada, FW wear, and most snowboard brands are all doing it.

try really hard to do something refreshing. Which is admittedly difficult in the outerwear space. It's been years since I wanted anything saga.

Top notch athlete focus edits that make your gear look great. Surface is doing a great job with a comeback right now, the fantastic edits and clean modern products are working.

All this “hey look how cool we used to be” stuff on your social media and NS is actually super off putting. This is probably just me but after getting robbed by revision but I would ever trust a company that failed to ship product out, you guys goofed super hard and it’s gonna take a lot more than a cringey saga story reposted on social media .

What "actions" should they be doing? Their word is basically all they got in the summer/fall during a pandemic, you guys are trying way to hard to shit on a company that has had a significant impact on the ski industry over the past 15 years.

At the end of the day they’re just another outerwear trying to make money off of us and I literally couldn’t care less about their past or what they USED to be. If they’re as OG as they say they are they’ll be fine, if they go under- who cares, there’ll be 2 more outerwear companies to replace them.

I appreciate your comment and understand your points completely. I want to respond to try and clear a few things up that often lead people to incorrect assumptions.
- The statement wasn't written by interns. It was written by Saga Outerwear staff thats been with the company for a decade.
- Steve Stepp has all of the video footage for Trollin'. He always has. We gave him full reign to make that series how he wanted and when he doesn't want to make episodes he just doesn't make them. Don't @ us in regards to Trollin', we've been as frustrated as everyone else with the lack of Trollin videos. When it became clear that Steve didn't like to operate on a schedule we stopped trying to push him and just said "fine, put out the videos whenever you want". We still love working with Steve on his projects but he doesn't like to work on our schedule so we stopped trying to make him.
- Our entire product collection was 50% off from March until October. Was that not enough of a "F*cked Up Friday" type sale for you? Additionally, members of our Fast Food Email Club regularly receive discounts on the same level that those sales used to be.
- We gave away product through our instagram page once a week from December-March(then we were all furloughed and not allowed to work on Saga). We give away thousands of dollars in free gift cards to clubs, teams and events around the world every month.

I can understand if you don't like the way we chose to try and come back from troubled years and a pandemic furlough. But to say we don't do things to support skiing and freeskiers is just flat out wrong. The more large scale activations like brand edits and events will come. We didn't want to just jump back in without trying to involve the community first and listening to how they would like to see a brand like Saga continue in freeskiing

Mistakes have been made, they have been corrected. We've never not had freeskiing and it's skiers as our top priority. This can be seen by the events and athletes we support. This message and response isn't meant to be an excuse or a combative defense. It is only to try and more clearly let members know what's going on with Saga and how they can take part in shaping a freeski brand, as you are with your response.

i agree with you about half of this. i get what saga was going for with this post, but i think they fully missed it, at least with the original post. it just sounds like an intern advertisement. you're right, if they're around to support freeskiing, let's see the return of support for projects, videos, community engagement, etc...

saga got screwed out of their control a ton of times over the last 2 years, especially between the robbery and parent company changes as well as covid. i'm not saying they're not guilty of consequently fucking over their customers and not publishing messaging taking accountability and asking for understanding. the radio silence was pretty beat.

but you're a moron to say saga is just another outerwear company trying to make money off of us. what kind of stupid mindset do you have to be in to not recognize that there are companies in skiing that also want to do good for the community, and that saga can still be one of them? you can go say that shit about atomic, k2, the north face, whatever. but saga just wants to find a way to get back on its feet and continue to help foster the corner of skiing that we all fuck with.

- We gave away product through our instagram page once a week from December-March(then we were all furloughed and not allowed to work on Saga). We give away thousands of dollars in free gift cards to clubs, teams and events around the world every month.

I can understand if you don't like the way we chose to try and come back from troubled years and a pandemic furlough. But to say we don't do things to support skiing and freeskiers is just flat out wrong. The more large scale activations like brand edits and events will come. We didn't want to just jump back in without trying to involve the community first and listening to how they would like to see a brand like Saga continue in freeskiing

Mistakes have been made, they have been corrected. We've never not had freeskiing and it's skiers as our top priority. This can be seen by the events and athletes we support. This message and response isn't meant to be an excuse or a combative defense. It is only to try and more clearly let members know what's going on with Saga and how they can take part in shaping a freeski brand, as you are with your response.

I guess, I don’t really have much to say. If y’all really wanna make a comeback then cut it with the corny “saga is a journey” talk. End of the day I guess I’m just too jaded or I’ve been skiing for too long to trust like that but after what went down I simply could not support y’all unless I saw a serious attempt at fixing what went wrong. i agree with you about half of this. i get what saga was going for with this post, but i think they fully missed it, at least with the original post. it just sounds like an intern advertisement. you're right, if they're around to support freeskiing, let's see the return of support for projects, videos, community engagement, etc...

saga got screwed out of their control a ton of times over the last 2 years, especially between the robbery and parent company changes as well as covid. i'm not saying they're not guilty of consequently fucking over their customers and not publishing messaging taking accountability and asking for understanding. the radio silence was pretty beat.

but you're a moron to say saga is just another outerwear company trying to make money off of us. what kind of stupid mindset do you have to be in to not recognize that there are companies in skiing that also want to do good for the community, and that saga can still be one of them? you can go say that shit about atomic, k2, the north face, whatever. but saga just wants to find a way to get back on its feet and continue to help foster the corner of skiing that we all fuck with.


I’m not gonna beef with you dawg but as someone who almost had their season ruined by revision not shipping skis and robbed of $400 I just have no love for shit like that.

tri_photoall my closest homies bought Saga back in the day. One of them bought the PB+J combo, I think it was a part of the 2011-2012 kits... I followed suit by getting Durtschi's pro model jacket and some yellow pants to boot. I looked ridiculous, I'm sure. But I loved that kit hahaha

Eventually I wised up and bought better looking stuff, all from you guys at Saga. I haven't owned any other brand's clothing since 2012, and don't plan on switching. Saga stuff is comfortable, functions well, looks good, affordable for my budget... gotta love it.


don't feel bad, those were the skittles years. we all rocked the most ridiculous colourways, following after the pros haha. 2007-2011 basically.

trackpants are hot af these days, check out fyve they're selling like hotcakes. Even armada, FW wear, and most snowboard brands are all doing it.

try really hard to do something refreshing. Which is admittedly difficult in the outerwear space. It's been years since I wanted anything saga.

Top notch athlete focus edits that make your gear look great. Surface is doing a great job with a comeback right now, the fantastic edits and clean modern products are working.


I would support a throwback line to the 08-10 outerwear with newer tech for sure

Bring back the look book. It was nice to be able to see someone wearing the gear and have it listed with how tall they are and how much they weigh. The current size guide is kind of useless. Especially since each line fits so different. Or do something like Virtika does for their size guide where you select the height and weight of the model and the size of the clothes on the model to see how it fits.

What would "a serious attempt" at fixing what went wrong look like? Not to take the words away from you before you have a chance to respond, but since the great delay episode we have:
- Refunded or delivered all products to customers from that troubled time.
- Moved all inventory to a new warehouse(fall 2019) that has yet to have delivery issues. Even this summer, while the staff of Saga was furloughed, the new warehouse continued to ship without delay.
- Are now using a dedicated professional team for customer support.
- Invested more than any previous year into freeski tours and events.

This is a serious question. What else should a brand do to do to start earning back credibility after severely disappointing their customers.

Good thoughts. I like the size guide style you reference as well. Oddly enough, that style of size and fit guide resulted in more size exchanges and returns than the current one does. It's a tough problem to solve. One style gives more descriptive information yet it results in more confusion somehow.

Also, the general sizing of our products (primary jacket and pant styles) is all the same. The length, waist, inseam, underarm, front, etc. are all essentially the same across the primary product lines. The two little differences that will make certain styles feel different sizes is the cut/seams and the material. Where a seam or pocket falls on the product will change the way it sits on the body. Same with material. Using a more rugged material can make a jacket or pant feel more snug and "stand up" on the rider. Using a less industrious material with the same dimensions will feel more baggy and "hang" on the rider.
The sizing changes were done about 3-4 years ago. We wanted it so that a customer looking for a large jacket and pant would be able to buy that size in any product without having to try and figure out the different fits. Where as when the Anomie, Fatigue and Monarch first came to the line, they were all very different fits and had very different sizing specs. The people that were able to figure out their sizing loved it. Everyone else, not so much.
This change also helped simplify development and production.

Lastly, for everyone out there(Steve) still asking for the low crotch, baggy pants, these are so difficult to make. Even when we tried over building the stitching, the crotch still split.

revision thankfully never recovered and I’d be shocked that y’all are. It’s much harder to gain reputation back than it is to lose it so y’all got a long road ahead of you- how you gain it back is up to you but if you really want my opinion I’d do a massive pr project this winter- video contest? Weekly challenges? Contest of some kind? Something that shows you care and gets the community involved with you again (since y’all ignored us for over a year)


also was there any compensation for the kids who spent money on outerwear and didn’t get it for a whole season? Even revision handed out gift cards.
