Bened_notnilStrava is everything that is wrong with many sports these days. Fun freeride Mountain Biking is being destroyed by weekend warriors trying to get their KOMs and QOMs. I try to go have fun riding with my friends and all they want to do is go as fast up and down as possible, then after like two laps, they are too tired to continue biking. Strava just makes everything competitive and ruins the easygoingness of the sports we know and love. Sorry about the rant :/
OP: I don't really think this could happen to skiing so go for it
r00kieSo like a virtual chinese downhill?

tri_photoI see your points, but I disagree, personally. I'm using it only to see how many miles I ride, and just kinda compare and contrast each time I am out. I have a buddy that uses it for tracking his runs in Nicaragua (him and his wife live there), and it's super cool to see the totally different mapping over there on my feed.
I have a small handful of buddies on Strava, so it's nothing too crazy.

BigPurpleSkiSuitY'all are going down. I say we just have virtual chinese downhills all year at our mountains, I'll run one from T2B at the bird for sure
mulzIt's a fitness tracking app which people use for a multitude of reasons... Sounds like you're one of the ones that takes it too seriously.
abar.Lamest thing about strava is when people record private/illegal spots and then the route shows up on the map publicly and the spot gets fucked
.squirrely.100% agree in skiing especially east coast bc i have put in work to cut glades etc, but gotta say i have found a ton of sick mtb trails using the global heat map. Along with caltopo for finding gravel routes
roast me
But i dont think your normal weekend beater would put in the time/ effort to find trails that way. Still takes a lot of poking around and ending up on game trails, hike a bike, and other fun stuff your average rider would not be down with
