Salomon Shift Mounting Question

Hey y’all,

just had my pair of shifts dropped off at the local shop to have mounted. Noticed some pretty tiny gaps near the front of the toe piece, under the AFD plate, and at the rear of the toe piece. Is this something I should be worried about? I have a feeling it's nothing to worry about. Thanks in advance for any tips or recommendations

No worries it's just because of where the screws are positioned and the weird binding shape

id take em back and have them tighten down those screws all the way

Everything seems torqued properly for all of the screws. The shift has a different bolt mounting pattern than most bindings which I think causes those areas of very minor lift.
Cade2id take em back and have them tighten down those screws all the way

if it was mounted to a new ski with now previouse holes it should lay flat. most bindings have differnt hole patterns, doesnt mean they shouldnt be flat against the ski when mounted. why would salomon design a binding that doesnt lay flat?

I wouldn't worry about it. There is a way to get them to sit flat if the screws are tightened in a certain fashion, but even if they're not and it sits up a bit it won't actually affect anything.

The part that is sticking up is the edge of the binding, and the screws are inward of that part. As long as the screws are flush, you're good.

I might be wrong but to me it seems the front binding gap is present on all photos in this article. Additionally, I just made an experiment with two unmounted (front) bindings pressed against one another - there is definitely a small gap at the front part so I suppose it is there by design.

It’s a good theory but there’s a reason for it. Shifts have a unique mounting pattern on the toe piece where there are 4 holes like a typical toe piece, but a fifth hole above the set of 4. •

there is a stud like piece that goes in the top hole, which the toe piece is then slid on to, and then the other 4 screws are screwed into the ski. The gap is from the stud like piece, where the toe piece is slid on to. There’s a gap because once the toe piece is slid on, the stud can’t be tightened down anymore, so there is often a gap.
