Arizona Snowbowl Ski Bum

I grew up in Phoenix, have been a season pass holder for as long as I can remember, and have plenty of friends at NAU. For what it is, it’s a fun little mountain. If you’re looking for lots of snow, challenging terrain, and the big resort experience, look elsewhere. It’s got a lot of college students, and mostly snowboarders. Pretty solid park (LTC have a video there). Flagstaff is a cool little town but nothing too exciting. I’ve definitely made plenty of fun memories at snowbowl and have a lot of nostalgia toward that mountain, I just don’t know if I’d go outta my way to go there unless you already live in Arizona.

Solid park for sure. Mountain has a bit of decent terrain but not a huge amount. Cant comment on snow conditions as ive only skied a day there. Definitely good vibes kinda mountain for what a saw

Might see ya around. This is the gonna be the first year I don’t get a pass since I’ll prob be at mammoth and big bear for the most part but I’ll def be in town here and there. Used to ski there a couple times a week in a white Sierra.

TheLustyLeopardThinking about going to Arizona for the winter. Has anyone worked there/rode there and can give me an honest review of the place? I haven't seen a whole lot of information online about what the snow is like and what the parks are like and was just looking for some info about it. Id probably be sleeping in my car too.

Yo man! I graduated from NAU in 2018 and worked as an instructor there throughout college. It's a fun mountain. The terrain is limited but enough to keep you entertained. The snow either very hit like 400 inches a season or very miss. It's in a weird area and totally depends on the year.

A couple of years ago they got bought by a collective that owns a bunch of resorts in the southwest. Since then they have just been pouring cash into the place. Built a brand new 6-seater and this year they're replacing the old 3 seat Agassiz chair with a Gondola (mind blowing).

The scene there is very good. The parks are good. Not much bc or big mountain skiing but still some. The ski school there is a rad community with a bunch of really talented skiers. If you are looking for a part-time job and comped pass I recommend it.

Definitely an underrated ski area. Like mentioned before can be very hit or miss, and a good powder day is unreal for the snow quality (blower) and lack of crowds. BC is also extremely
overlooked but lots of prize lines don’t go every year. Always amazed at what the locals ski out in the Mongol Rim...

Flagstaff is an underrated ski town, close in proximity in to ski area and not super unaffordable. Lots of student housing etc. so unless you are totally broke housing is not impossible to find. Sedona is close if your into biking or the snow sucks

major cons: la Niña winter is bleak for southwest snowfall. Lack of real gnarly terrain and no other ski area within several hours. Telluride is cool but far... I would pick Tahoe, PNW, Colorado Utah Montana Idaho or Taos over Az if you’re serious about skiing.

tldr: az snowbowl worth a visit not worth a season imho.
