2020-21 Predictions

CatdickBojanglesI think it will be busier than normal. Everyone has been couped up for so long. People want to get outside now. Bikes have been flying off the shelf is an example what ski season will be like once resorts announce their opening plans. I feel bad for resorts that have to place restrictions because they will be taking a big hit. Where unrestricted resorts will be making bank.

In the overly optimistic summary, big snow, desolate ski areas, and skierman has positive karma (unexpected but proven true). What a season 2020-21 is shaping up to be.

Also I've heard some of you thinking this season might be similar to post 2008/09 recession with less crowds. These two combinations could make for an epic year for some of you.

Honestly even with all the reservations and uncertainty I don't think it's unreasonable to assume there will be less skiers this year. People are and will continue to be afraid to travel. People may be travel restricted. Many people won't have money to splurge on skiing. Even restrictions on resort amenities could deter folks from traveling cuz we all know half the jerries aren't there for the snow. This could be a really good year for locals but shitty for resort profits.

EvanMeyerthere was massive spike in sales for all outdoor sports but I don’t think you can really compare bikes being sold to potential resort business. most bikes that were selling out were entry level/intermediate bikes just so people could get out of their house. Skiing is still fucking expensive and without all the extra luxuries resorts usually offer It could deter the weekend warriors.

Samp20Unsure if this is a fair comparison but here in NZ we got locked down for a month just prior to ski season, restrictions slowly started to lift and once fields could open up i'd say they were pretty fuckin busy just cause everyone had been cooped up inside for so long, the local fields which don't rely so much on tourists were packed, the fields down south in Wanaka and Queenstown not so much i don't think, but i went down there for a week and still saw some of the busiest days I've seen there. I also think it would have been way worse if we'd actually had a good season of snow but it was pretty trash. Also be prepared for it to potentially be worse if they make you socially distance on chairlifts, they did that here and it sucked, maximum of 2 singles on a 6 person chairlift lol
