Great news! Also, today is the last day to lock in the cheapest rate on a season pass.

JpurdI think this will have some negative consequences if we are being totally honest here. The number of people living in CO with the Ikon (myself included) get 5-7 days at Abasin. If I don't get a reservation at another mtn I'll just go to Abasin, how many other people are going to do the same thing?
I'm guessing that the lines at Abasin will be long this season, especially given the social distancing that will need to occur at lifts/lines.
BiffbarfBasin pass holders only. It won't be no res for ikon folk.
reeddavis218I think the thing that everyone forgets is that the Ikon pass is completially different from the Epic. Ikon does not own any of the resorts that they have on their pass, where as epic is all of the vail resorts, owned by the same company, vail. Assholes. But i think vail had to imlament a reservation system across the board because they have one board of directors determining something for all the resorts. we might see reservation systems implemented at the really big resorts, but i think the small ones will be fine

CLQ"Details are still be determined" and "we don't know whats going to happen" seem to be pretty similar statements.. Whats this guys problem lol?
PeteMahnSimple just like the saying goes, don't bullshit a bullshiter. Don't try to entice people to buy a pass unless they know they can fully use it. There's no grey area here. Just come out and say reservations or no reservations. Don't delay the inevitable, if there's reservations just say it now instead of right before the mountains start opening and you piss everyone off for no reason.
Maybe, though this would be a stretch they could rule reservations for the start of the season and if resorts don't get to crowded and it's not as busy as the mountains expect and project such as their reservation systems; then mountains could fully or close to fully open later in the season. This seems like the smartest scenario, but don't try and beat around the bush and wait right before the season. People would much rather go to a smaller local spot just so they don't have to make reservations.
This year is going to be a strong year for mom and pop resorts, especially ones that are honest and up front with their customers.

ConesForBreakfastI think part of it has to do with Alterra figuring out what each mountain's plan is and how covid overall plays out in the coming months. Some people predict a huge wave like we have not seen before, others speculate there vaccine rumors will prove to be true and we won't need to worry about that. Really, nobody knows what's going on whatsoever
Ryanvdonkalterra does own a good number of the mountains actually, hence why there's full mountains and partner ones with days like abasin. this is true with the epic pass too, they do not own all the mountains (kickhorse, fernie, kimberly, nakiska, sun valley, telluride, hakuba...). and they suck just as much as vail.
partyandBSI would be a bit surprised if Polis allows free reign on a ski resort.
I doubt this will be allowed. Honestly, with ski season so far out this feels like a money grab with false pretenses. Passes will be sold and then regulations will follow and they will say "hey its a pandemic we can't help it. You can still via our reservation system so no refunds"
I respect A Basin a lot so I'm truly hopeful thats not how this pans out. Just seems too soon to do this.
skiingskisI don't think any major ski area near Denver will not have reservations. Possibly Loveland but that's it. I would bet money Winter Park will require reservations at least for the parking lot. Copper and Eldora are doing parking reservations. Who does that leave? Nothing within 3 hours of Denver.
Monarch and Wolf Creek are not doing reservations. I believe Telluride isn't doing reservations either but good luck paying $1750 for a pass... I just bought an Abasin pass - cannot wait for unrestricted early season skiing in basically 5 weeks. Probably will defer my Ikon.

blazeonyiaYou're probably right. To clarify, I bought the Abasin pass direct from their website and the op is a screenshot from an email they sent me today.
Perhaps someone with Ikon that goes to Abay could explain some more--my understanding from last season is the traffic wasn't too bad. A lot of people either used their Ikon days right away or saved them for the end of the season. Maybe I'm wrong but they must have made this decision on the thought that they can handle the amount of people hitting their mountain.
casualLoveland isn’t doing reservations cuz we’re just gully like that.
the parking lot already limits capacity significantly. 5,000 people is something like the natural max as
it is, and with nearly 2000 acres I don’t think density of skiers is as big of a concern.
not to say that reservations couldn’t happen, but as it stands there are no plans for that.
skiingskisI would be money you're wrong. They just need to show they have some restriction in place - which they accomplish by putting reservations on ikon and limiting pass sales.
And ski season for them isn't that far out. It's like six weeks away. Have not heard a negative word from any leader and they already got government approval before the announcement.
The whole thing is just a show so people don't scream

partyandBSI can't find anything from my wicked fast google search that supports or conflicts your government approval claim. I am stoked they are opening and i hope this no rez approach is managed approperiately and is a model example that allows everyone else to relax restrictions and eliminate the rez system. I don't see ditching the rez system before christmas though
skiingskisYou saying for Loveland or Winter Park?
My assumption is no reservations at Loveland. I emailed them though and they made it seem like it was definitely a possibility but not planned yet. Went with Abasin once they made it official.
skeirmanWebsite says the pass price increase on September 15. Anyone know what it goes up to?
ZappaStacheIt was country club skiing last season! I thought the ikon pass holders would be getting after it but it turns out that most of em are bigger Jerry’s than the Epic crowd leaving all the goods unskied.
They had to cap Ikon pass holders so the thousands who won’t get to ski WP or Copper on the weekend don’t come and turn it into a complete shit show. I don’t feel bad for any Ikon pass holders bitching about the Basin, if you want passholder privileges buy a pass from and support that ski area. Until then, take what you can get with your Walmart pass.

SuspiciousFishMonarch is going to really be the win for this year. Especially since I live in Colorado Springs and I like tree skiing.
skiingskisIkon announced it. No reservations at Winter Park. We'll see if that holds.
