Advice for a prospective ski-bum in the states?

I'm heading over to the US next season.
With the finances being tight I will probably be working on a resort. Anyone got any recommendations?
I've been looking at Aspen, Kirkwood, Copper, Winter Park, Heavenly or Mammoth.
I understand some drug test, so I want to avoid those ones (ie. Aspen), mind you if anyone knows how much they actually enforce it I would be interested to know.
Speaking of intoxication, do any former/current ski-bums in the US know how limited a 20 year old will be when it comes to hitting the piss? I'm guessing it depends on location, but suggestions on laid-back hills would be apprectiated. I'm dreaming of a US version of Nelson BC...But with a park...I wonder if Copper might fit the bill?

The drug test are generally bullshit. They will only test you if you do something really stupid at work or get into trouble.
You will want to get some fake ID. I just went to Big Sky in Montanna which is a really chill place, but i still got asked for ID. I was only 19 at them time though so i had fakes - they have no idea whether it is real or not. Plus i hear some places, like Mammoth (apparently) they will only accept a passport.
My reccomendation is to go to places that every other Aussie and his dog doesn't go to. Like Big Sky. shit park (will be heaps better next year with their plans), Heaps of Big mountain, no lift lines, relaxed place with large infrastructure but small and friendly atmosphere, and there was only 7 Aussies - which makes you a novelty.
on another note, if I was going to go back i would look at Winter Park, Park City and Copper..maybe Mammoth -HEAPS of Aussies are there and some Yanks will spite u cause of it -as we steal all the chicks

Cheers for the advice!
I appreciate it.
I'm applying to a few places...will see what happens.
Big Sky looks amazing! I don't know if I'll work there, but I definitely plan on visiting!
That's a tasty amount of double diamond, how fair dinkum is it? It looks pretty serious, but my knowledge of US mountains is shithouse at best, the only place I've skied in North America is Canada and I found SOME (big, resort specific emphasis on that word ;) ) of the double diamonds were a bit ho hum (ie. Red Mountain, Fernie).
How do those ones rate?

the black diamond is legit. most of the good stuff is unmarked, closed, or simply out of the way. But the whole challenger mountain, and lone peak is consistently epic. However Jackson Hole sets the example for black diamonds

How difficult is it for us to get a visa though? What do you gotta do?

God, if your restricted for cash, good luck. By the time you've paid for all the visa fees, you're about $1k down. My best advice is to start saving. I'm heading to Aspen to work the 04/05 winter. Hardest part, organising accommodation. Hell expensive!
